Summary
- The God of War Greek saga remasters may finally be announced in March 2025 after a months-long spell of rumors.
- Santa Monica Studio will reportedly announce the God of War remaster(s) around the same time as an upcoming exhibition that will commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary.
- It’s unclear at the moment whether Santa Monica Studio will only remaster the very first God of War game, or potentially all six Greek saga titles.
A reliable source claims that the much-talked-about remasters of the popular “God of War” game series might be unveiled next month. As the “God of War” franchise turns 20 in March 2025, developer Santa Monica Studio could potentially mark this milestone with a unique treat for devoted followers of the series.
There have been whispers on the internet about a refurbished series of the Greek God of War games, which some say are being developed to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary in 2025. These rumors suggested that these remastered versions would be unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 in December. However, this part of the rumor didn’t pan out, causing some to speculate that instead of being remastered, the Greek God of War games might become available on the PS Plus Premium classics catalog in 2025.
Previously circulating speculations suggested that we might catch a glimpse of the remastered God of War series during the February 2025 State of Play event. However, this didn’t materialize as expected. The enthusiasm for these remasters in the God of War community took a hit, but trusted insider Jeff Grubb has sparked renewed optimism. In a recent BlueSky post, Grubb hints that the earlier rumors about God of War remasters might have been a tad premature, and that the project could be unveiled concurrently with the 20th anniversary exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California.
God of War PS5 Remaster Announcement May Not Be That Far Away
The exhibition is scheduled for March 15 through March 23, hinting that the announcement for the God of War remaster might only be a few weeks off. Grubb has proven reliable in sharing PlayStation-related rumors in the past, and even well-known insider Tom Henderson suggests that the upcoming God of War game could revisit Greece and center on a younger Kratos. If Santa Monica Studio is indeed planning to unveil a remastered collection of God of War games next month, it will be intriguing to discover which Greek mythology stories they might include.
Beyond the primary trilogy of “God of War” games, there are a couple of spin-offs on the PSP platform and the 2013 prequel titled “God of War: Ascension”. Ideally, we could see a remastered collection of all six Greek “God of War” games, but whether or not that becomes a reality remains to be seen. However, it’s also possible that Santa Monica Studio may opt to remaster the original “God of War” game and potentially make the rest (excluding “God of War: Ascension”) available through the PS Plus Premium classic library.
