The eagerly awaited game, “Exodus,” led by former BioWare developer James Ohlen, is expected to launch in the year 2026. This exciting project is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio under Hasbro-owned publisher Wizards of the Coast. “Exodus” is an action RPG set in science fiction, slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The upcoming debut game from Archetype Entertainment, based in the U.S., is titled Exodus. This studio was founded back in 2019 and is being spearheaded by Ohlen, who boasts a rich background that spans from the 1998 fantasy game Baldur’s Gate to the 2019 sci-fi title Anthem. Alongside him, the team is made up of other veterans from BioWare, including Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer for Mass Effect. During The Game Awards 2023, the first trailer for Exodus was unveiled, revealing that Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey is part of the project. After several previous updates, it has now been confirmed when the game will be released.
During a recent earnings discussion, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks disclosed that the game “Exodus” is expected to launch in 2026, ending years of anticipation. He expressed his enthusiasm about Archetype Entertainment’s initial offering and hinted at the promising prospects for the upcoming game given the accomplished background of its project lead, Ohlen. Moreover, Cocks indicated that he foresees “Exodus” as a significant contributor to Hasbro’s growth over the coming years.

Just like the Mass Effect games that Oleyn previously contributed to, Exodus shares a similar genre as a planet-traversing third-person shooter adventure. As demonstrated in its trailers, it is a narrative-focused game with multiple story paths and combines action and stealth elements. Notably, the tale of this Oleyn-created game was also delved into in Episode 11 of Prime Video’s animated anthology series, Secret Level, which premiered in December 2024.
Based on the confirmation from Archetype Entertainment’s parent company about a potential release of Exodus in 2026, we might hear an official announcement soon. Since the release date is fast approaching, it seems likely that more sneak peeks at this space-themed game could be revealed later in 2025.
In other places, things haven’t been going well for the team who led the Exodus at BioWare. This studio, owned by EA, went through restructuring and layoffs in January 2025, after their 2024 release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, didn’t sell as expected. Yet, despite these challenges, the developers at BioWare emphasized that they were still planning to launch the next Mass Effect game as scheduled.
