The Tony Hawk Pro Skater series is hinting at an upcoming announcement for potential remasters of its classic games. This long-running video game franchise, which has been entertaining gamers since the late 90s with its extreme sports focus, could soon see a comeback of two of its iconic skateboarding titles. The Tony Hawk’s Underground series is particularly beloved among fans.
Over the past ten years, Tony Hawk Pro Skater has paid tribute to its early days by looking back on the series’ origins with updated remakes. In 2020, we got a new version called Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2, which is essentially an updated edition of the first two Tony Hawk games, complete with fresh tricks and online multiplayer. However, the 2015 release of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 didn’t go over well with fans, as it was a new numbered entry in more than ten years that didn’t stick to the traditional format. A recent teaser suggests that the skateboarding franchise may be announcing something new soon.
According to VGC’s report, the official Tony Hawk Pro Skater website posted an update on Friday, featuring a puzzling countdown clock ending on March 4th. Although the franchise has not officially confirmed this countdown, hints from deleted information suggest that a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 might be in development. The website’s code initially contained a line referencing “thps-3-4-countdown,” which has now been taken down. Additionally, the site mentions Iron Galaxy as being part of the project, having previously worked on the PC version of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2.
Tony Hawk Website Introduces Mysterious New Countdown
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the prospect of remasters for the third and fourth installments of the iconic Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. These games, particularly Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4, are often seen as the pinnacle of the franchise’s golden era.
Pro Skater 3, rated highly on the PlayStation 2, is not just one of the best-loved video games in its class, but it also holds a special place among the all-time greats.
Pro Skater 4 played a significant role in propelling the franchise into its next phase, transforming Career Mode missions into a format that echoes the Story Mode of later games.
The comeback of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has been accompanied by an increase in skateboarding-themed games across the gaming industry. EA has confirmed they are developing a new game for the Skate series, broadening playtesting for it to home consoles. Additionally, several independent skateboarding games have gained popularity among players, such as OlliOlli World from 2022, which was nominated for “Best Sports/Racing Game” at the 2022 Game Awards. The remasters of Tony Hawk Pro Skater will give some of the series’ classic games a modern makeover.
