The Elbaf arc of the popular series “One Piece” is delivering long-awaited character unveilings that fans have eagerly anticipated, along with some surprising revelations they didn’t expect from creator Oda. For instance, Scopper Gaban, the trusted lieutenant of the legendary Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, was introduced in “One Piece” chapter 1139. It was truly thrilling to witness a living legend on Elbaf, as fans finally got a glimpse into his true nature.
In chapter 1140 of One Piece, fans got a brief taste of Gaban’s immense power, leaving many in awe. His strength is nothing short of magnificent, and despite only showing a fraction of his abilities, Scopper Gaban has proven himself to be a formidable adversary. Interestingly, in this chapter, Gaban chose not to use his axes for most of the fight but did eventually unleash them in a powerful display. The instant he drew his weapons, he summoned a mighty attack called Yasotakeru, or Army of the Braves.
Scopper Gaban’s First Named Attack — Yasotakeru

- Unleashed By Gaban Using Two Axes
- A Flurry Of Powerful Slashes
In chapter 1140 of One Piece, Scopper Gaban put on an amazing display for the audience. Fans had long been eager to see what Gaban was capable of, and he did not disappoint. It’s worth mentioning that most of the fight between Gaban and Luffy and Zoro wasn’t particularly intense. Gaban didn’t intend to harm either Luffy or Zoro; instead, he merely held a key in his hand and used it to subdue Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. Gaban’s speed was indeed remarkable, but that was just the beginning. He seemed more interested in testing Luffy’s strength rather than being serious in battle. When Luffy started to take the fight more seriously, Gaban used Supreme King Haki to empower the key and strike the Yonko directly across his face.
Luffy, Dodge! — Zoro upon seeing Yasotakeru
Though his previous feats were undeniably impressive, Scopper Gaban’s true prowess was yet to be seen. This revelation came swiftly when he effortlessly leaped over some stones and grasped his twin axes for the first time. As soon as he got a grip on those axes, he launched an incredibly powerful and potentially fatal strike at Luffy. At this sight, Zoro immediately understood that this attack was no ordinary one and had to warn Luffy to evade it. Recognizing the need to protect both Luffy and himself, Zoro prepared for defense as well.
With his axes, Gaban unleashed a swift series of strikes, which he named Yasotakeru, or the Army of the Valiant, and poured them upon Aurust Castle’s tower. Though Zoro just barely defended against one strike, the others easily sliced through the tower, demonstrating that this attack was incredibly destructive in its potential damage.
The Strength Of Yasotakeru
Yasotakeru Is One Of Gaban’s More Serious Attacks
To begin with, let me clarify that Scopper Gaban is an exceptionally potent character, and we’ve yet to witness the full extent of his power in the narrative. The technique he unleashed against Luffy and Zoro, Yasotakeru, is undeniably powerful, but I suspect there are many more formidable attacks hidden up his sleeve. Speaking about Yasotakeru, it’s nothing short of breathtaking. With a single swing, Gaban managed to cleave a substantial portion of Aurust Castle – a colossal structure designed for Giants. To put things into perspective, when the Straw Hat Pirates found themselves in the fake Elbaf, they were actually inside a castle. The fake Elbaf, which was the size of a town itself, was merely one room within this castle. Aurust Castle is far larger than that, and Gaban didn’t just demolish a single room; he leveled an entire tower with his casual attack. This alone makes Yasotakeru capable of reducing a city or even a whole town to rubble.
Hey old man, you just tried to kill us! — Luffy and Zoro
Regarding the power of their attacks, fans should recall that Zoro swiftly activated his King Haki in response to Gaban, and Luffy instantly transformed into Gear 5 as a countermeasure against him. This suggests that Yasotakeru was so powerful it forced these two characters to utilize their maximum abilities, and even prompted them to work together against him. In other words, Gaban was strong enough to easily handle either one of them individually, or potentially both simultaneously.
What If Yasotakeru Was Infused With Supreme King Haki?

Returning to Scopper Gaban, despite the destructive force of Yasotakeru, fans should keep in mind that this was just a regular attack for him. Scopper Gaban has far greater abilities and his powers are immense. In truth, while Yasotakeru caused significant harm, it wasn’t fortified with Haki, or at least not with the Supreme King Haki. If Gaban had truly given it his all and infused all his attacks with Supreme King Haki, the damage would have been catastrophic and could have resulted in many casualties. The attack that effortlessly sliced through an Elbaf tower and a cloud in the sky, would have been much stronger and potentially powerful enough to cause fatal injuries to fighters like Zoro and Luffy. Without doubt, it could have been one of the most powerful blows in the entire series.
How Strong Is Scopper Gaban?
Scopper Gaban Is Easily Yonko Level

From the brief glimpse fans had of Scopper Gaban, it’s undeniable that his strength is astonishingly superior to most fighters. Previously, we were led to believe that Gaban matches the power of both Roger and Rayleigh, and now, he demonstrates this claim. Even in his advanced age, Gaban shows signs of being a Yonko-level fighter, though his endurance might not be what it used to be. Given his age, he may no longer be able to defeat opponents like Shanks or Blackbeard, but in his prime, he was likely an unstoppable force.
In essence, we’ve only caught a glimpse of Gaban’s true capabilities because during his fight with Luffy, he wasn’t fully committed and was merely trying to activate Gear 5. If Gaban had given it his all, he would be in a league of his own, even compared to some of the Yonko. Whether we’ll get to see more of Gaban in future episodes or not is still uncertain, but it’s clear that he’s already proven himself to be one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
