Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Guards Can Cheekily Reference The Game’s Name

Summary

  • Despite its realistic visage, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has a notable sense of humour.
  • This can be found throughout the game with easter eggs, references, and more.
  • One of the best examples of this is a fourth-wall breaking guard that pokes fun at the game’s name.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the guards may occasionally break the boundary between the game world and reality by subtly acknowledging the game’s title during their conversations with Henry by gesturing in its direction.

Among many factors distinguishing Kingdom Come: Deliverance from other authentic medieval video games, one notable aspect is its engaging humor. Despite the game’s narrative maintaining a serious tone and incorporating some somber scenes, there exists an abundance of amusing moments stemming from Henry’s encounters within the game world.

In the sequel, the humor is amplified significantly, not just through the characters and their interactions, but also by the numerous hidden jokes and references that the developers have scattered globally. Some of these we’ve previously mentioned, like Luffy’s hat from One Piece, but you haven’t experienced everything until you’ve played around with the guards.

“I’ll Kick Your Arse To Kingdom Come… Deliverance!”

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the NPCs serve as a significant source of humor throughout the game, with even the seemingly serious guards sometimes displaying unexpected silliness. The protagonist, Henry, can engage with these characters in various ways, such as attempting to persuade them to overlook his misdeeds or grant him access to specific locations. For instance, one instance of this was demonstrated by YouTuber Stone Edge Gaming.

In the video, we see Henry engaging in conversation with a guard and attempting to persuade him to allow him free exploration of the area in return for some coins. Although the guard may have agreed, it should be noted that Stone Edge Gaming’s Henry doesn’t possess any real money. Instead, he is falsely accused of trying to deceive or trick the guard.

As a fan, I must say that Deliverance 2’s interaction is already an impressive display of humor and diverse options. However, it takes a fascinating turn when the guard threatens Henry, promising to send him “to kingdom come with a good old-fashioned kicking.” Just when you think it can’t get any better, the voice actor cleverly references the game’s title by exclaiming, in perfect character, “Deliverance!” What a delightful surprise that was!

Fans of Kingdom Come swiftly noticed that the game’s subtitles overlooked a noticeable Easter egg, which has led some to speculate that the voice actor improvised the line and it was not removed. However, it appears that an improvisation did occur (it seems too tempting not to), but it’s more likely that Warhorse found the scene funnier with the reference included and opted to preserve it.
