In the game called Civilization 7, there’s a fresh addition known as Mementos. These Mementos give players the chance to acquire adjustable advantages as they advance their leader-specific paths (Leader Path) and account level in the Foundation Path. While some top-tier Mementos in Civilization 7 can only be accessed after making substantial progress along these paths, a good number of highly beneficial Mementos can be unlocked comparatively swiftly.
Some of these top-tier keepsakes will provide you with a substantial advantage right from the start, making it challenging to envision playing without them. However, others, such as Imago Mundi, are exceptionally potent in specific eras but should be swapped out for keepsakes that align better with later periods during an Age Transition.
8. Golden Seal Stone
Extra Influence On Science Buildings
- Golden Seal Stone Effect: +1 Influence per Age on Science Buildings
- Golden Seal Stone Unlock Requirement: Himiko, Queen of Wa, Level 2
One excellent Memento for Civilization 7 players to unlock early is the Golden Seal Stone, as it allows Science-focused players to quickly amass Influence throughout all ages. Each city can accommodate two Science Buildings per age, and the Influence gained from these buildings increases from 1 Influence per building in the Ancient Age to 3 Influences per building by the Modern Age.
If each of your three cities houses two Age’s Science Buildings, playing that specific Policy Card will ensure a minimum influence of 18 points for you.
Since Influence helps you build alliances with City-States, resist Denouncements, collect War Support, and given that it’s hard to accumulate compared to other resources, the Golden Seal Stone is an excellent choice for placement.
7. Merchant’s Saddle
Scouts, Merchants, And Settlers Can See Further

- Merchant’s Saddle Effect: +1 Movement and Sight for Scouts, Merchants, and Settlers
- Merchant’s Saddle Unlock Requirement: Ibn Battuta, Level 5
Among the notable memorabilia in Civ 7, The Merchant’s Saddle stands out due to its enhancement of Sight and Movement capabilities for Scouts and Settlers. Equipping this memento significantly expands the vision range of these units, allowing players to spot potential dangers from a distance before venturing into an area, thus making exploration and expansion more manageable.
This tribute mirrors Ibn Battuta’s leadership skills, but reaching Level 5 with him requires at least two games of play. Despite this, it’s an exceptional memento for any civilization in the upcoming _Civ 7_, making it worthwhile to play as Ibn Battuta a few times to ensure a strong choice for every game session.
6. Brush & Scroll
Boost Growth With City Specialists

- Brush & Scroll Effect: +5% Growth in Cities for every Specialist in that City (max 25%)
- Brush & Scroll Unlock Requirement: Confucius, Level 2
Brush & Scroll is an exceptionally strong Memento beneficial to all Civilizations as it boosts the growth rate of cities for each Specialist, emulating Confucius’ leadership ability. By positioning five specialists within a city, you can amplify that city’s growth rate by 25%.
Prioritizing growth is crucial for every civilization in any era, as it allows for rapid expansion and acquisition of a larger population.
5. Eagle Banner
Science Efficiency Increases With More Great Works

- Eagle Banner Effect: Cities gain +5% Science Efficiency per Great Work in that City (max 25%)
- Eagle Banner Unlock Requirement: Catherine the Great, Level 2
The Eagle Banner is a reward you can acquire rather swiftly while playing as Catherine the Great, and it significantly advantages both culture-focused and science-focused gameplay sessions. With items like Codex, Artifacts, Relics, and more categorized under Great Works, your Science Efficiency will amplify, resulting in a 5% enhancement to your technology research for every Great Work obtained.
Among the top artifacts beneficial for Ancient Era study methods, this one stands out. Gathering half of the necessary manuscripts for that period will bestow the greatest science enhancement. In the Exploration Era and beyond, players focusing on culture can leverage this to increase science passively, freeing up resources to pursue the Cultural Heritage Trail.
4. Corpus Juris Civilis
An Extra Social Policy Slot Is Very Powerful

- Corpus Juris Civilis Effect: Start with one extra Social Policy Slot
- Corpus Juris Civilis Unlock Requirement: Foundation/Account Level 8
The Corpus Juris Civilis is an exceptional artifact in the game Civ 7, as it proves useful throughout all eras for various victory scenarios. With an additional policy slot at your disposal, you can focus on Science and Production in your capital city from the start, while also enjoying a bonus of 2 Culture. Even in later ages, once you’ve unlocked additional Social Policy Slots, this artifact will continue to provide you with an advantage over opponents who don’t possess it.
The disadvantage is that, in order to obtain Corpus Juris Civilis early, you need to hasten your progress through the Foundation Path up to Level 8. This involves playing numerous matches of Civ 7 and achieving a multitude of Leader Progression Path milestones. However, it’s something you’ll find difficult to replicate once it has been unlocked.
3. Padrón Real
Makes Natural Wonder Tiles Even Better

- Padrón Real Effect: +100% yields on Natural Wonder tiles, but only if you are working the most Natural Wonders tiles. +2 Combat Strength for Naval Units if you do not control the most Natural Wonder tiles.
- Padrón Real Unlock Requirement: Isabella, Level 9
In a simplified version, here’s how you might rephrase that: Isabella is often considered one of the most powerful Leaders in Civ 7, especially when you focus on finding Natural Wonders early and establishing settlements to benefit from their unique resources. Her Leader Ability enhances these benefits even further. By acquiring the Padrón Real memento, you can duplicate this ability for any Leader, greatly increasing the yields from Natural Wonders.
In their natural state, Wonders of Nature offer substantial yield advantages, so doubling these benefits on already-powerful tiles significantly enhances them. If you choose to play as Isabella and equip this memento, your Natural Wonders will instead triple the yields they provide, resulting in some of the most overpowered cities in the game.
2. The Travels of Marco Polo
Easy Gold, Especially When You Stack Sight

- The Travels of Marco Polo Effect: +50 Gold for every 100 tiles explored by your Units
- The Travels of Marco Polo Unlock Requirement: Foundation/Account Level 9
One of the valuable keepsakes from early expeditions, which might need replacement by the time you reach the contemporary era, is “The Travels of Marco Polo.” This artifact rewards 50 Gold for every 100 Tiles uncovered on the map. While it may not be particularly powerful on its own, it can accumulate with other effects that enhance your view of the map.
If you combine this with Imago Mundi, almost every time you activate a Recon Unit’s Search ability, you’ll earn 50 Gold. At the beginning of the game, this is a significant amount of gold, but as you uncover most of the map, it will need to be replaced at the Age Transition screen.
On larger and conventional maps, the journeys documented in Marco Polo’s travels become highly profitable due to the expansive areas to uncover. Conversely, on smaller map types, the diminished world size decreases the efficiency at which this keepsake generates wealth.
1. Imago Mundi
An Enormous Sight Bonus Makes For The Best Memento In Civ 7

- Imago Mundi Effect: +3 Sight instead of +1 for Scout’s Search & Lookout Abilities
- Imago Mundi Unlock Requirement: Foundation/Account Level 7
One standout relic that Civ 7 players often value is Imago Mundi. To obtain this relic, players must elevate their account level to Level 7. However, when unlocked, you’ll soon understand why numerous gamers praise it as the top relic in Civ 7.
When a Scout employs its Search skill, it uncovers everything visible up to one additional range, as well as any hidden discoveries twice that distance away from the current location. In simpler terms, if you possess this memento, each time you search, you will expose an impressive area of four tiles in all directions, and all concealed discoveries within eight tiles.
However, there are still limits to how much you can stretch this – consider taking the role of Ibn Battuta, or employing his artifact to amplify your Perception even further. This would allow you to survey up to five adjacent squares with the Search action, and uncover Discoveries that lie as far as 10 tiles distant.
As a keen explorer, I can tell you that unveiling the entire map before departing from Antiquity with additional keepsakes and enhancements is an option worth considering. These bonuses cumulate, making your journey even more rewarding. For an added bonus, pair this with The Travels Of Marco Polo, a treasure trove that awards 50 Gold nearly every time you activate the Search ability.
