Summary
- Xbox has undisclosed first-party games in the pipeline to be announced.
- Some of these games are expected to be announced at the June showcase.
Xbox proudly unveils that it has several more first-party games still waiting in the wings for announcement. The latest installment of Xbox’s official podcast showcased Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, who shared insights about the numerous upcoming Xbox titles such as South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and others. Additionally, Booty confirmed a push-back for Playground Games’ Fable remake, with a new target date set for 2026.
2024 wrapped up with Xbox’s first-party studios shining brightly, and 2025 looks even more promising. After the critically acclaimed launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle towards the end of last year, Xbox’s lineup for this year is looking strong. Obsidian’s Avowed was well received just recently, Compulsion Games’ southern gothic, stop-motion style action game South of Midnight is set to drop in April, and Doom: The Dark Ages is expected in May. To add to the excitement, another Obsidian RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, is aiming for a release later this year as well. Xbox’s future beyond 2025 is also filled with exciting titles such as the Perfect Dark reboot, Clockwork Revolution – a Bioshock-inspired RPG, Gears of War: E-Day, and now Fable. As a fan, I can confidently say that Xbox’s first-party studios are delivering some fantastic games!
In the most recent edition of the Official Xbox Podcast, Craig Duncan attempted to ease the disappointment about the delay in the release of Fable, by emphasizing that there’s still much excitement to be had this year and beyond. Although Duncan didn’t provide details, he hinted at unannounced games that Xbox is keeping under wraps, stating: “We have quite a few projects we haven’t announced yet, so needless to say, I spend a lot of time with those…but yes, there’s a lot happening here.
Xbox Still Has More Game Announcements Up Its Sleeve
Several Xbox-affiliated game studios may be preparing to unveil their upcoming titles soon. For instance, it has been more than three years since Double Fine released “Psychonauts 2,” sparking curiosity among Xbox gamers about what’s next from Tim Schafer and his group. Similarly, Ninja Theory might be due for a reveal of its latest project. Obsidian Entertainment, known for smaller internal projects like “Grounded” and “Pentiment,” could also be working on something new.
As for the larger Xbox franchises, Halo Studios, following its recent rebranding, may have an Unreal Engine 5 game ready to present, or perhaps Playground’s “Forza” team is gearing up to launch the next installment of “Horizon.” These examples only scratch the surface; there are numerous Bethesda and Activision Blizzard studios that could soon be in the spotlight with new games as well.
We’ve got numerous unannounced projects that keep me quite occupied. And indeed, there’s plenty happening around here.
In the upcoming months, it’s probable that Microsoft will set a definite date for their Xbox June showcase, where they might unveil new first-party games from studios like Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, or others. It’ll be exciting to find out if this year’s presentation can surpass last year’s impressive display.
