A month before the open alpha release, I had the opportunity to try out Splitgate 2 ahead of time. Additionally, I got to chat with Ian Proulx, the co-founder and CEO of 1047 Studios, who developed this action-packed shooter. As I delved into the intricate mechanics of Splitgate 2, I found a comfortable fit with what was presented.
Through my conversation with Proulx, I uncovered details about the upcoming Splitgate 2. This game serves as a continuation of the shooter that debuted in 2019 initially for PC, and subsequently on consoles. In this sequel, it seems like change and development are at the forefront.
More To Do
Ian Proulx openly admitted the aspects where Splitgate (the initial game) lacked. Despite having impressive short-term player retention, the game lost players rapidly once they recognized a limited range of activities or objectives within it.
It was super fun, super simple, but it lacked variety and that staying power.
Our short-term memory recall was exceptionally high, with our one-day and seven-day results ranking among the best in the field – surpassing many elite shooters currently active.
But what we saw is players would come on, play for 3 or 4 weeks, and then say, ‘now what?
The team at 1047 Games has addressed those concerns in the follow-up title.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about the upcoming updates! More secrets to uncover and treasures to claim is what keeps me coming back for more. Just like Proulx mentioned, they’re keeping us hooked with fresh content regularly. That means seasonal events, tons of live-ops stuff, and plenty of customization options to personalize my gaming experience!
The game has been significantly enhanced with innovative movement features such as sliding, along with a large-scale multiplayer mode for 24 players modeled after Halo’s Big Team Battle. This mode will be available on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, making it an excellent choice for gamers from the previous generation. It’s impressive how thoughtful this move is on the developer’s part.
Over the past few years, the growing potential of Splitgate 2 has enabled 1047 Games to grow from a small team of just 10 members into a much larger workforce of nearly 200 employees. Everyone at the company is eagerly anticipating the launch of this exciting shooter game.
I inquired from Ian Proulx regarding the suggested framework for the game, considering the influx of free-to-play shooter games over the past few years, some of which didn’t make it.
Splitgate 2 will be free-to-play.
We’re innovating on gameplay, we’re not innovating on monetisation.
(It’ll feature) traditional industry elements and no pay-to-win or gacha mechanics.
