Summary
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A introduces new playable characters whose identities are already the topic of fan theories.
- The game’s protagonists may be related to Professor Sycamore or even be Gen 2 characters, according to popular theories.
- It’s more likely that they are entirely new characters making their debut in Legends: Z-A.
2021’s Pokemon Presents live stream has now given fans a glimpse into the gameplay of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and there’s been plenty of intriguing speculation among Pokémon series aficionados about the freshly unveiled protagonists in these games. Interestingly, The Pokémon Company has taken an unexpected route with these characters, as the playable protagonists in Pokemon Legends: Z-A do not closely resemble the original Gen 6 protagonists that many players had anticipated.
It was anticipated by numerous gamers that the main characters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A would resemble Calem and Serena from X and Y, following the pattern set by Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which featured playable characters bearing a strong resemblance to classic Generation 4 protagonists. However, contrary to these expectations, the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A (scheduled for release later this year) will introduce a new pair of protagonists who seem strikingly similar to certain characters from previous games within the franchise. This revelation has sparked a flurry of speculation among fans, with several intriguing theories now being discussed in online communities.
It’s widely speculated that the main characters in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” could be connected to, or possibly even the offspring of, Professor Sycamore from “Pokemon X and Y”. This is particularly evident in the male protagonist’s hairstyle, which resembles Sycamore’s iconic dark curly hair from the Kalos region. However, an intriguing detail on the “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” page of the official Pokemon website hints that the game’s protagonists visit Lumiose City for tourism, implying they might come from a different region altogether.
Fans Have Multiple Theories About the Identities of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Protagonists
An interesting yet highly improbable theory proposed by some fans is that the main characters in “Legends: Z-A” could be connected to Ethan and Lyra, playable characters from Generation 2 games like Pokemon Gold and Silver, set in modern times or at least related to them somehow. This speculation arose due to shared traits such as similar eye colors, hairstyles, and even outfit designs between the characters, although “Legends: Z-A” does share a loose connection with the Johto region since two of its starter Pokemon are confirmed to be second generation starters.
The primary issue with this concept is that, based on the canon of the core-series games, Ethan and Lyra would be in their 30s by now. Longtime fans of the Pokemon series have seen Red, the initial protagonist from the Gen 1 games, age throughout the years as he has appeared in various titles over the decades. Even though anything might be feasible by the time Pokemon Legends: Z-A comes out, it’s more probable that the game’s main characters will be entirely new named characters that players can take control of once the game launches later this year.
