Summary

  • Renzik “The Shiv” lacks voice acting in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1, hindering story immersion.
  • New NPCs in the update have voice actors, making Renzik’s silence noticeable.
  • Renzik plays a significant role in the story but lacks voice acting, impacting dramatic scenes.

In the latest update, Patch 11.1 for World of Warcraft, Renzik “The Shiv” surprisingly lacks voice acting, even though he’s a key figure in the storyline. This unexpected omission has left some players feeling disconnected, potentially tarnishing an otherwise highly-appreciated content update for World of Warcraft.

At long last, Patch 11.1 for World of Warcraft has arrived, introducing the initial significant content expansion of “The War Within” to fans worldwide. The majority of the update unfolds within the subterranean Goblin metropolis known as Undermine, where players join forces with figures such as Monte Gazlowe and Renzik “The Shiv” to thwart Jastor Gallywix’s avaricious plans.

With the debut of the first part of Patch 11.1 for World of Warcraft, players have found a significant absence that has affected their immersion in the story. Specifically, Renzik “The Shiv,” SI:7 agent and Gazlowe’s Alliance-aligned counterpart in Undermine(d), doesn’t have a voice actor. This wouldn’t be problematic by itself; however, Renzik often interacts with multiple voiced characters, resulting in perplexing scenes where other NPCs seem to be conversing with themselves due to his absent lines. This peculiar omission has been pointed out by players like Wowhead contributor and devoted World of Warcraft fan Portergauge.

Renzik’s Missing Voice Actor in WoW Patch 11.1

In the recent update, several new characters are now voiced. Characters like Baron Revilgaz and Marin Noggenfogger from World of Warcraft, who were previously unvoiced, now have voice actors assigned to them. Additionally, new Goblin characters such as Grimla Fizzlecrank and Pamsy from the Venture Company have numerous lines, making the silence of Renzik even more noticeable.

Renzik’s part in the narrative is particularly troubling. Throughout the Undermine(d) campaign, he travels with champions, and in the final two chapters released on March 4, the selfless sacrifice of his World of Warcraft character sparks Gazlowe to initiate a revolution, culminating in the Liberation of Undermine raid. The lack of a voice actor may diminish the emotional resonance of his departure for numerous spectators.

It appears that Renzik’s lack of voice lines might be deliberate, although we don’t yet know why. Previously in Vanilla, Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and The War Within Patch 11.0.7, as well as in the short story “Tipping Point” from the upcoming World of Warcraft: Crossroads anthology, Renzik has not been given a voice actor. Instead, he uses standard Goblin click quotes. It seems that players will have to use their imagination when it comes to Renzik’s voice in the Undermine(d) story.
