Throughout this year, the trading card game version of the monster-catching franchise has seen numerous gameplay changes with the introduction of potent new cards. The Scarlet and Violet era introduced ex Pokemon as a primary mechanic, while the “Tera” feature allows Pokemon to shield themselves from damage when on the bench. Following close behind, the Pokemon Trading Card Game incorporated Mega Pokemon as an enhancement for well-liked characters such as Charizard and Gardevoir post its release. Now, it’s been announced that Mega Pokemon will return to the TCG.

On Thursday’s “Pokemon Presents” broadcast, The Pokemon Company announced that Mega Evolutions are making a comeback in the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG). During the presentation, two of the first Mega Evolution cards set to be released were unveiled – these include Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. Pokemon TCG Re-Adding Mega Evolutions Later This Year

In almost a decade, Mega Evolutions will make their grand reappearance since they were last seen in the game. These evolutions were initially introduced during the game’s X and Y era, where Mega Pokemon cards took center stage. However, as the Sun and Moon era arrived, these Mega cards gave way to GX Pokemon. Now, it has been confirmed that Mega Pokemon are set to reemerge in video games, with the Mega Evolution mechanic expected to be a key element in the forthcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A game, slated for release later this year.

During the Pokemon livestream, not only was the announcement of the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) made, but there were numerous other reveals as well. The Pokemon Company unveiled Pokemon Champions, a new battle-oriented game destined for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. This game will enable players to transfer their Pokemon from Pokemon Home and Pokemon GO.

In addition, the livestream showcased an extensive segment on Pokemon Legends Z-A, offering fans a sneak peek at its revamped battle mechanics and some of the upcoming characters. It seems that 2025 is shaping up to be an exhilarating year for Pokemon enthusiasts, with a new main-series game and an update to the TCG on the horizon.
