The anime series “Sakamoto Days,” derived from its namesake manga, has been the center of many conversations in 2025. This captivating show boasts a massive fanbase that eagerly keeps up with each episode. Just recently, they conducted a popularity poll to discover which characters resonated most deeply with the audience.

A week ago, it was announced that the Weekly Shonen Jump issue 14/2025 would disclose the poll outcomes for Sakamoto Days. Now, the results are unveiled, and there’s a significant surprise: The leading character of the manga, Sakamoto Taro, has dropped out of the top five spots and is now ranked eighth.

Sakamoto Days’ Popularity Poll Results Have Been Released

It’s rather unexpected for the primary character of a series to rank so low in viewer surveys. Typically, manga heroes end up among the top 3, even if they are overshadowed by other characters. But this instance appears to be an exception to the rule. For the complete poll results, you can find them below.

  1. Nagumo
  2. Shin
  3. Shishiba
  4. Osaragi
  5. Natsuki

Last time around, I was thrilled to see myself placed fifth in the popularity contest! However, it seems my position has taken a slide this time. Interestingly, those of us who landed in the top 8 positions are about to receive some exclusive stickers – quite a reward for our supporters!

It’s not always detrimental for Sakamoto Taro to trail in popularity. In fact, this situation can be seen as a testament to Yuto Suzuki’s extraordinary character development skills. The author’s diligent efforts have fostered such a fierce competition among characters that even being the lead character is no guarantee of success.

Sakamoto Days’ Anime Adaptation Is Polarizing

The animated version of Sakamoto Days started streaming from January 11, 2025. It made quite an impact, breaking previous viewing records on Netflix. Ever since, it’s been holding a spot among the ten most popular shows on their platform.

Despite its current popularity, certain enthusiasts are advocating for a complete remake of the anime. They aspire for it to receive the same level of acclaim as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood did. Although Sakamoto Days may not boast the same quality of animation as Solo Leveling, it’s crucial to keep in mind that the latter primarily emphasizes action scenes. On the flip side, Sakamoto Days addresses numerous significant real-life issues.

Rather than completely redoing the entire season, TMS Entertainment could benefit from devoting extra energy and care to the upcoming season of the anime they’re working on, as they’ve done a commendable job with animation but have room for improvement.

Sakamoto Days is available to watch on Netflix.
