In the game Little Nightmares 3, collaboration and teamwork play a significant role since you control two characters. Given that the last installment did not incorporate any form of two-player cooperation, it’s reasonable to question if this new version offers co-operative or multiplayer features. Let me clarify: Yes, Little Nightmares 3 does indeed include cooperative gameplay!
One notable variation between the initial Little Nightmares game and its sequel lies in their characters. The original Little Nightmares followed the story of a young protagonist named Six. However, Little Nightmares 2 expanded upon this by introducing Six’s companion, Mono. In contrast, Little Nightmares 3 features brand new characters, Low and Alone, who will lead us through another harrowing adventure.
Under the leadership of Supermassive Games, the third installment is undergoing some significant changes. We’re eager to discover whether cooperative play, multiplayer action, or a blend of both will make its debut.
Can You Play Little Nightmares 3 in Online Co-op?
In a new development, Little Nightmares 3 now offers multiplayer cooperation online, allowing two players to jointly explore the mysteries that lie hidden.
Introducing another main character in Little Nightmares 2 suggested a potential shift in direction. If Little Nightmares 3 were to feature another playable character, cooperative play seemed almost certain. This prediction has proven accurate, as both Low and Alone can now be controlled by two separate players.
To enjoy this game together, you both require an internet connection and own a copy of the game yourself. However, it offers the chance for cooperative play online.
Does Little Nightmares 3 Have Local Co-op?
In contrast to expectations, Little Nightmares 3 does not include local cooperative play at all, making it somewhat puzzling why this aspect was left out in the horror game.
2023 saw a Gamesradar interview revealing the studio’s choice to forego local co-op gameplay. Game director Wayne Garland explained their reasoning: “While we pondered couch co-op, in the end, we felt it was crucial to maintain the atmosphere and immersion we aim for with Little Nightmares, so we focused on online co-op instead of more conventional party-style play.
Here’s another way of expressing the text: Supermassive Games aims for cooperative gameplay while maintaining a sense of solitude. This is meant to enhance immersion, although I personally find this aspect a bit underdeveloped and prefer local co-op play. It’s possible that this feature might be added later on; we’ll have to wait and see.
