The 12th anniversary for the game “Warframe” is fast approaching, and along with it comes a major update! This update, known as Techrot Encore, is an extension of the last expansion, featuring a fresh Warframe, a revamped Adversary system, new Protoframes, and many other exciting additions.
In late 2024, Warframe: 1999 was unveiled, introducing an extensive amount of fresh content which is now being further developed. Following the pattern of Warframe’s ‘Echoes’ updates (updates that extend a previous expansion), Techrot Encore will be launched on March 19, continuing the narrative of 1999. Besides offering an array of new character choices, this upcoming update will test players with the Technocyte Coda, a group infected by Techrot and posing as imposter rockstars.
What Fans Can Expect From Warframe: Techrot Encore
Technocyte Coda
Among Techrot Encore’s key innovations in Warframe is the introduction of the Technocyte Coda, a new adversary system similar to the Kuva Liches from 2019 and the Sister of Parvos system that followed. The Technocyte Coda consists of a group of biomechanical monstrosities inspired by the fictional On-Lyne band popular in 1999, featuring five proto-Infested members for players to encounter. During gameplay, if an active member (or two in the case of a Duet) is present, they can appear in any mission set in 1999. Killing enough Coda will unlock the Technocyte Coda Showdown boss event, allowing players to earn tokens that can later be exchanged for specific items, unlike previous Adversary events where drops were more random.
New Warframe, New Protoframes
Techrot Encore is set to introduce a new Warframe, known as Temple, marking its 60th addition. The design of Temple reflects a strong influence from glam-rock music, which is evident in its gameplay mechanics. One of these mechanisms is a passive feature that encourages players to maintain a rhythm. This rhythmic feature functions like a metronome, offering a bonus when the player activates an ability in sync with the beat. Temple also has the power to summon Infested minions for buffs and debuffs, create walls of subwoofers, and transform their sentient guitar Lizzie into a flamethrower temporarily. All these abilities can be enhanced if they’re timed to the rhythm set by the metronome.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that some fresh Protoframes are set to make their debut in the Warframe: 1999 narrative, alongside Techrot Encore. The quartet of newcomers includes the groundbreaking artist Flare (Temple), the battle-hardened veterans and former lovers Minerva (Saryn) and Velimir II (Frost), as well as the self-taught engineering prodigy Kaya (Nova). Unlike their romanceable counterparts, these Protoframes will have their own unique storylines unfold and will don special Gemini skins.
New Modes
In addition to the upcoming enhancements in Warframe: 1999, Encore is planning more features. Among these are novel game modes. One of them is called Stage Defense, a type of Defense mode where players will protect Flare’s tribute show for their deceased bandmates. Players will also encounter a revised Temporal Archimedea, requiring them to collaborate with Minerva and Velimir II to complete three consecutive missions in succession. Kaya will provide entry to the innovative Peely Pix system, enabling players to apply upgradable modifiers and alter their experience with this new version of Temporal Archimedea.
In the Hollvania arcade of Warframe: 1999, a fresh feature is set to arrive – it’s called Ollie’s Crash Course, an exhilarating racing minigame featuring Atomicycles. This new addition will become accessible when Techrot Encore goes live. Players can climb the leaderboards and personalize their cycles, in addition to enjoying the thrilling race action. The minigame represents an extension of Warframe’s Make-a-Wish pledge to James Conlin, who lends his voice to the Ollie character. Previously, the character and performance appeared in a limited capacity with the release of 1999.
