The Most Ridiculous Item in Monster Hunter Wilds Is Nothing but a Lost-In-Translation Disaster

In just a week since its release, Monster Hunter Wilds has been smashing records on Steam. Surprisingly, despite the technical glitches, gamers can’t seem to stay away from this monster-hunting adventure. One of the main points of discussion among players is the mysterious Wyvern Milk they’re discovering as they progress through the game’s narrative.

In the world of Monster Hunter, it’s not unusual to encounter strange materials. However, the notion that wyverns, creatures without the biological ability to produce milk, can provide it, is certainly perplexing. As it happens, this concept was more of a misunderstanding due to localization or translation issues. Contrary to belief, no Rathalos in the game can be milked.

There is no Rathalos milking in Monster Hunter Wilds

In the game ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’, you may encounter a substance called Wyvern Milk at some point. Since this game revolves around hunting and gathering from monsters, players initially thought that they would be able to milk the next Rathalos they encountered. However, fear not as there’s no such task in the game – it’s just a fun concept!

It’s fortunate that Wyvern Milk isn’t real milk, but rather an energy source in the game. The unfortunate name might be a mistake in translation or localization. In Japanese, the item is called “Ryuunyuu,” where “Ryuu” means dragon and “nyuu” can mean milk in certain contexts like “gyuunyuu” for cow’s milk and “tonyuu” for soy milk.

It’s no shock that the Monster Hunter community has wholeheartedly adopted the absurdity surrounding Wyvern Milk. A Reddit thread on the subject is teeming with humorous content related to Rathalos milk farms and wyvern milk factories, depicting the production process.

Why on earth was the crucial element in the narrative called “Wyvern Milk”? It seems quite unusual to name it after a creature like the Wyvern. They could have invented a different name for it, something not related to Wyvern Milk!

Some players have proposed that Capcom might find it amusing to incorporate a complete Wyvern Dairy Farm into the game, as “Wyvern Milk” seems more like an everyday grocery item rather than something magical or from the game’s fantasy world.

It’s been a speedy but rocky rise to success

Although the Wyvern Milk situation provides some humor, it’s not the main focus of our current discussions. In just hours after its release, the game broke records by having over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the top five most-played games ever on the platform. The series has now reached a global audience, which was quite niche in the past.

Although the game boasts a significant number of launches historically, it has garnered about 56,000 reviews on Steam, with only 57% of those being positive. This is significantly lower than previous installments in the series, such as Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise, due to the game’s poor optimization on PC. The PC version’s performance falls short of what we expect, and it appears that Capcom isn’t planning to improve this situation anytime soon.

Regarding Wyvern Milk, what’s the plan from Capcom? Was this a fun, intentional mistranslation that they chose to keep? Or are they planning to change its name? Perhaps they could provide an in-game explanation or alternative name to make it clearer about what Wyvern Milk really is.
