In Monster Hunter Wilds, fishing serves as an excellent method for procuring ingredients for your culinary endeavors. However, certain aquatic creatures can be quite elusive. If your goal is to catch a Whopper, we’ve compiled essential information to aid you in your pursuit.
In the game “Monster Hunter Wilds,” you can only reel in Whoppers after you’ve taken on Kanya’s Catch of a Lifetime side quest at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. This quest grants access to a unique lure, the Tuff Joint Bait, which is specifically designed for catching larger fish species.
After completing that task, embarking on a quest for a Whopper follows, challenging your fishing skills like no fish ever did before.

Where to find a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds
Whoppers aren’t a particular type of aquatic creature; instead, they refer to large-sized marine or freshwater animals. You won’t typically encounter them in small streams or ponds but rather in larger water bodies.
As a gamer, I’d say my favorite spot for bagging some Whoppers is none other than Area 17 within the Scarlet Forest, right by the Great Lake Shore. If you’ve already got a campsite there, just warp to it. If not, I can’t stress enough how crucial it is to establish one there – it’ll make your trips to the Great Lake Shore a breeze. And let’s face it, with Whoppers being finicky creatures, you might need to take a break at the camp to refresh the zone and get those elusive Whoppers to appear again!
How to catch a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, landing a giant Whopper requires more finesse than typical fishing. The game incorporates a mini-game for reeling in your desired catch, and the lines can break during this process, leading to unsuccessful attempts. With practice, you’ll become adept at handling these challenges.
Begin by finding a Whopper near the surface of the water, as they’re easily recognizable due to their considerable size and the fins that usually stick out above it. Position your fishing rod close by and give the lure an enticing wiggle to catch their attention and hook them.
While reeling in the Whopper, try to move the fishing rod along with its swimming motion. Going against its flow could lead to the line snapping and the fish getting away, so it’s best to avoid this unless the fish collides with an obstacle, causing your line to break as well. When the fish leaps out of the water, respond by moving the rod in the direction of the jump.
Whenever the fish seems to lose energy and stops swimming, that’s your sign to pull in the fishing line. At such moments, lift and lower the rod quickly to bring the fish nearer to you on the shore by shortening the line. Since it might take several rounds for the fish to exhaust itself, repeat these steps as often as necessary.
With consistent practice, you’ll become a seasoned Whopper hunter, so don’t give up! Remember, every time you reel in a Whopper, you move one step closer to the ‘Whopper Catcher’ title, an accolade given for catching 30 of these giants.
