Summary
- Astro Bot maximizes PS5 potential with impressive processing power optimization for graphics.
- Astro Bot’s simple art style doesn’t detract from technical impressiveness, winning multiple awards.
- Sony plans to release more family-friendly games following Astro Bot’s success.
Despite not boasting the same stunning visuals as top-tier PlayStation exclusives like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, Astro Bot effectively utilizes the full processing power capabilities of the PS5.
The graphics of Astro Bot have a playful, animated style which means that some players may overlook the game’s intricate visual effects and the numerous elements it displays simultaneously without compromising its performance.
Astro Bot Was Being Optmized By Team Asobi Until The Very End

As a passionate gamer, I recently had the pleasure of sharing insights about our game’s creation process with the esteemed Japanese gaming publication, Famitsu.
According to the developer, they pushed the PS5’s processing capabilities to its maximum, and one aspect that stands out is the representation of water. The part where you acquire the sponge power-up and splash water around was particularly challenging due to an unsteady frame rate. They continued to optimize it right up until the final stages.
Yoshida commented that the reason Team Asobi incorporated numerous bots into the game was because he had enjoyed interacting with multiple characters during the demo. With the capabilities of PS5 and the PS 30th anniversary, he was able to bring this enjoyment to life by offering a variety of characters in the game.
Over the last few weeks, more bots have been incorporated into the game as Team Asobi continues to release regular, complimentary updates featuring fresh levels and new bots to save.
Astro Bot’s visual design is straightforward yet appealing, lacking the high-definition realism found in many other games with character-focused graphics. However, it manages to be technically impressive in a unique way.
It’s great to see that Astro Bot’s visuals aren’t just standout; the gameplay is also exceptional. In fact, it was awarded Game of the Year at last year’s The Game Awards and won five awards in total last month, including the Game of the Year prize at the 28th annual DICE Awards by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS).
According to Sony President Hiroki Totoki, Sony has observed the popularity of Astro Bot and intends to produce more fun, family-oriented games similar to Astro Bot for release in the coming days.
