Monster Hunter Wilds Reaches Nearly 1.4 Million Concurrent Steam Players

Over the weekend, it’s become clear that Monster Hunter Wilds is one of Capcom’s most successful launches yet, as evidenced by its performance. According to SteamDB, the game reached over 1.38 million simultaneous players at its peak, setting a new record for the platform as it helped push PC gaming on Steam to a new high of 40 million concurrent players.

As I type this, “Monster Hunter Wilds” stands second on Steam’s list of simultaneous players with approximately 1.13 million gamers engaged. This position is just behind the free-to-play competitive shooter “Counter-Strike 2,” which boasts around 1.48 million concurrent players. However, when looking at all-time records, “Monster Hunter Wilds” ranks fifth among games with the most simultaneous players.

At the top of the list is “PUBG: Battlegrounds,” a game that boasted over 3.2 million simultaneous players at its peak. Excluding free-to-play games, “Monster Hunter World” would rank third in terms of concurrent players. It’s followed by “Black Myth: Wukong” and “Palworld,” both of which peaked with approximately 2.4 and 2.1 million concurrent players respectively, placing them second and third on the list.

This week, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rampage managed to sell 8 million units within just three days following its release on February 28. To give you some perspective, the latest game in the series, Monster Hunter Ascend, which was also a mainline title, sold 4 million copies during a similar time period. The venerable Monster Hunter Universe, another mainline game, surpassed 5 million sales.

Following the triumph of Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom has revealed that series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is moving into a new role as Chief Product Officer for their game development divisions, effective April 1. He will be replacing Yoichi Egawa in this position.

Despite the positive reception for Monster Hunter Wilds, there have been some issues recently. Specifically, Capcom announced this week that they are investigating a glitch which might hinder players’ progress in the game’s story. This problem essentially prevents a character (NPC) essential for interaction from appearing.

Monster Hunter Wilds has experienced a bumpy debut on various platforms, especially affecting PC gamers most noticeably. The game’s overall rating on Steam is Mixed, due to numerous complaints from players about its subpar performance on hardware that matches or even surpasses the system specifications provided by Capcom.

To tackle these performance problems, Capcom turned to social media platform X and suggested several solutions to players. These included updating graphics card drivers, turning off any software compatibility modes potentially affecting the game, and adjusting the game’s internal graphic settings for optimal performance.
