- Cheetos are made of water and cornmeal, can sometimes randomly resemble iconic images.
A snack shaped like Charizard, not officially linked to Pokémon, went under the hammer for approximately $88,000 USD in an auction. This sale showcases the extent of dedication among some Pokémon enthusiasts, even though this isn’t the first time a food item resembling a popular figure has fetched a high price.
Cheetos are produced by mixing water and cornmeal together, then passing it through machinery to form their distinctive chewy fingers. Occasionally, unusual shapes might appear. Over time, some individuals have earned quite a bit of money selling these Cheeto-shaped images at auction. In fact, the Cheetos company has held contests to discover the most extraordinary snack. This latest sale seems to have caught the attention of enthusiasts who enjoy both the iconic, finger-staining treats and Pokemon.
On February 11, an unusual Cheeto named “Cheetozard” was put up for auction starting at $275. By the time it ended on March 1, the price had skyrocketed to an astounding $72,000! Adding in the auction company’s fee, the final cost reached an impressive $87,840. This particular Cheeto looks strikingly like Charizard, a side view of it showing distinct horns, limbs, a tail, and a long wing from its back. Given its likeness to Charizard, it’s no surprise that this specific Cheeto is actually a Flamin’ Hot variety, known for its spiciness and bright red color, perfectly matching the fiery personality of the Fire-type Pokemon, Charizard.
The History of The Charizard Cheeto
As per the auction description, this Cheeto was initially found all the way back in 2018. Its striking resemblance was recognized, leading to its preservation. It has been attached to a custom-made Pokémon card and enclosed within a transparent display box for viewing. The addition of the card is quite humorous, as it mentions that Cheetozard evolves from Cheeteleon, featuring a mockup image showcasing what a Cheeto Charmeleon might appear like.
1. In recent times, some Cheetos that resemble figures or famous objects have fetched high prices, but this one is among the priciest ever sold.
2. Historically, official Charizard trading cards have been sold for astronomical prices, with celebrities adding to the hype by purchasing them. However, an item like this Pokemon-themed Cheeto may not have inherent value, but it certainly garnered a lot of attention from buyers. The frenzy around this sale has sparked curiosity about whether more Cheetos modeled after Pokemon will appear on the market.
