- Gears of War E-Day development may impact features in Collection
It appears that Microsoft might be willing to transfer any of its first-party games to rival consoles. One of their flagship series could potentially be transitioning to the PlayStation 5.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the possibility that Gears of War might grace Sony’s console this year.
Gears of War Collection Is A Rumor That Won’t Die Down

For about a year now, whispers about a Gears of War Collection have been circulating among industry insiders and leak sources, but Microsoft hasn’t given any official word on the matter.
On Twitter/X, Detective Seeds announced that the Gears of War Collection file has been uploaded to the PlayStation Store backend for future release. According to Seeds, the collection is scheduled to become available sometime between early to mid-August and will also support PlayStation 5 Pro enhancement.
Regrettably, it appears there’s a catch with this rumored release: The Gears of War Collection may not include the multiplayer mode (player versus player) and will primarily focus on the single-player campaign. It seems that the back-end store page for it indicates a one-player game without any mention of “support for additional players,” which implies no multiplayer support.
Keep in mind that the details provided are not confirmed, so please approach them with a considerable amount of skepticism.
It seems plausible that a Gears of War Collection might be unveiled and launched before the end of this year. However, what I find hard to believe is that it wouldn’t feature campaign cooperative play, a hallmark aspect of the series.
If the game doesn’t include Player vs Player (PvP) modes, it wouldn’t be unexpected given that Microsoft is currently developing Gears of War E-Day. It’s likely that they wouldn’t want their original Gears game to compete with E-Day’s multiplayer features and potentially draw away players from each other.
Initially launched on the Xbox 360 in 2006, the first installment of the Gears of War series was a significant exclusive title that set itself apart from other console games. Following its debut, multiple sequels have been produced, with the most recent addition to the franchise, Gears 5, hitting stores in 2019.
Last summer at Xbox’s June event, it was revealed that the upcoming installment in the series, titled Gears of War: E-Day, is currently being developed by The Coalition. This new title is rumored to serve as a prequel and will take place 14 years before the storyline of the initial game.
