As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited about the latest offering from Sony and PlayStation! They’ve rolled out a new leasing program called Flex, available in Japan and the United Kingdom. With this innovative scheme, I can now rent a brand-new PlayStation 5 or choose from several other fantastic PlayStation products for periods of 12, 24, or even 36 months! This is a game-changer for me as it offers more flexibility to enjoy the latest gaming technology without committing to a long-term purchase.
Players Can Rent or Lease the PS5 in Japan or the UK
In the UK, you can rent a variety of PlayStation models such as the PS5, PlayStation Portal, PS VR2, or DualSense Edge Wireless Controller through Raylo, a leasing firm specializing in technology. Similar to other leases, the longer your lease term, the lower your monthly payment. For instance, a 36-month lease for a PS5 Pro will only cost you £18.95 per month, whereas a rolling monthly lease (which can be canceled at any time) is significantly more expensive, with the PS5 Pro costing around £35.59 per month. It’s important to note that the current retail price for a PS5 Pro in the UK is £699.99.
Instead of rent-to-own, this plan is more like a lease, where users have the chance to buy the device after the lease ends, if Raylo deems it appropriate and pricing is set at that time. The service also leases controllers, but each PS5 comes with at least one controller, as well as a reasonable policy for minor damages such as scratches or dents.
At the tail end of February, Japanese video game retailer GEO initiated its PlayStation 5 rental service. This service allows players in Japan to rent a PS5 for either an eight-day or 15-day period at a minimal cost. Unfortunately, as reported by Automaton, all reservations for this service have been filled up until mid-April.
