As you journey through the game “Avowed”, you’ll eventually arrive at a significant landmark known as Galawain’s Tusks. This is where you’ll fully grasp the weight of your decisions, whether they be major choices that affect the game’s outcome or smaller side quests. The interplay between player choice and consequences is one of the standout features in “Avowed”. In a particularly intriguing small-scale decision, late in the game, you’ll find yourself grappling with an Ogre attack during the quest “A Cure for Rage“. However, upon closer inspection, things are not always as they seem. This guide will take you through the quest and help you decide whether to aid Grakohr the Ogre in “Avowed”.

How to Start A Cure For Rage in Avowed

Find Wandering Warden Lerae:

Instead of choosing multiple paths to embark on our journey, let’s concentrate on the approach that provides a comprehensive view of all the information this quest holds. To achieve this goal, it would be best to initiate your exploration from the Southern Warden Tower, which is located just north of Galawain’s Tusks’ main entrance gate.

Start your journey by heading south from the tower, then take a left on the primary road. Travel along this road until you notice Warden Lerae attempting to hail you down. She’ll be right in the middle of the road, near a big flagpole that stands out from afar. Engage in conversation with Lerae first, as there might be some initial chatter before you reach the topic of the caravan. Exhibit interest in the prospect of commerce between our empire and Galawain’s Tusks, and that discussion should naturally lead to the subject of the caravan.

Let’s work together to find both the missing caravan and our comrade, Gilyn – the Warden. This marks the beginning of “A Cure for Rage“. The initial mission you’ll undertake is to Track down the lost Aedyran Caravan.

Where to FInd the Aedyran Caravan:

By checking your Journal and following the quest trail, you’ll find a marker approximately 150 meters north of Warden Lerae along the main road. Continue on the main road until you spot the marker, then veer off the main path to continue your quest.

As I delve deeper into this caravan wreckage, I stumble upon the first broken cart, where a lifeless body lies. Among the breakable crates, I find a health potion, a much-needed boost for my adventures ahead. Tucked under the rear right wheel, I discover an intriguing document titled “Bill of Goods Sold to Wardens“. To make things more interesting, two small, menacing Stone Beetles are also lurking at this site.

By sticking close to the wagon trails, heading generally eastward, you’ll come across remnants of the caravan. A short distance along the tracks, you’ll notice a slight descent that leads to a rocky outcrop where yet another large wreck is discovered. Upon reaching this lower level, your current task will be completed, and a new objective will appear: find Gilyn.

Before departing from the caravan’s debris, don’t forget to grab the “Frequent Health Issues Among Galawain’s Tusk Residents” book. It’s situated in the cart perched on the rocky outcrop you land on after following the wreckage trail. You’ll find this book useful if you aim to resolve the quest amicably.

How to Complete A Cure for Rage in Avowed

Head to Grakohr’s Cave:

As you traverse from one ledge to another and eventually reach the debris on the primary route, you’ll spot enormous footprints surrounding the shattered wagons. Follow these tracks southward along the road until you come across a wagon that has collided with a stone barrier. You’ll then observe the large prints veering westward towards Grakohr’s Cave.

Approach the cave, and once you’re near enough, a scene will play out automatically. In this scene, you’ll discover that Grakohr the Ogre has captured Gilyn, leaving you with two distinct options on how to proceed from here.

  • Option 1: Attack Grakohr – At first glance, it seems that Grakohr is simply a vicious monster, not worthy of understanding or help.
  • Option 2: Help Grakohr – Listen to Grakohr’s request. He is an intelligent being, and claims he was the victim of an unprovoked attack, and as such, was merely defending himself. He tells you he is dying, and asks you to help him find a cure. He says he will let Gilyn go if you do.

Attack Grakohr in Avowed:

If you decide to fight Grakhor and save Gilyn, you can select the ‘Attack’ dialogue option when it appears. Notably, this is the only method to obtain Avowed’s Limb-Taker greataxe. The quest will be completed once Gilyn is freed.

Help Grakohr:

Should you choose to aid Grakohr, he’ll request that you revisit the wreckage in search of a book detailing the necessary recipe for crafting a cure for Molded Lung. You might have an opportunity to grab this during your initial exploration of the caravans. The recipe calls for finding three distinct items.

Where to Find The Calcified Fire Beetle Nest:

The specified object is situated to the east of Grakohr’s Cave, specifically amidst a series of rocky formations that you traverse on your path towards the initially damaged bridge leading to the Garden in “Our Dreams Divide Us Still”. By heading east from the cave, you will encounter a sizable swarm of beetles. Once you reach the pillars, look out for the common quest item, which emits an orange glow.

Where to Find Anti-Miotic Moss:

Make your way towards the southwest part of the big stone structure where Grakohr’s Cave is found. Keep going beyond the cave entrance, and you’ll spot the designated red trees on your right side. Ascend the rocky outcroppings, and you’ll notice the moss growing near the edge of the rock face as well as beneath the red trees.

Where to Find the Jar of Gunpowder Snuff:

The snuffbox you’re looking for is quite accessible. Make your way to the Southern Warden Tower, ascend to the second level, then enter the chamber on that floor. Upon doing so, glance against the wall immediately inside the room. You should spot the snuffbox resting on a tiny table near the staircase.

Should You Help Grakohr in Avowed?

From my perspective, indeed, I’d say you should lend a hand to Grakohr in his search for a remedy for his affliction. The journey becomes far more captivating when we decide to join him on this quest.

If you opt to assist Grakohr, you’ll receive ‘Avowed’s Stoneheart Trinket’, which enables summoning a ‘Ruinous Blight’ ally for battle. Additionally, this trinket grants access to the Southern Warden Tower, where you can interact with Lerae and Gilyn. Noteworthy is that Gilyn will now function as a trader. At present, it remains unclear whether Grakohr makes a reappearance or not.
