Summary
- Split Fiction sets a record for EA’s highest concurrent players for a premium game at 254,756 on Steam.
- The game’s unique Friend’s Pass feature allows for cooperative play, potentially increasing player count.
- While not free-to-play like Apex Legends, Split Fiction’s success suggests strong commercial potential for EA.
In recent times, we shared news about Hazelight’s Split Fiction being the Electronic Arts-published game with an average score of 90 for over a decade.
Notably, Split Fiction made headlines by achieving something that even expansive multiplayer series such as Titanfall, Battlefield, and others failed to do under the Electronic Arts (EA) umbrella.
Split Fiction Now Has The Record For Most Concurrent Players For A Premium Game

On March 8, it was confirmed that Split Fiction has broken the record for the most simultaneous players in an Electronic Arts paid game, making it the current record holder.
According to SteamDB, the game simultaneously had approximately 254,756 players. However, this figure does not include console versions, which are likely equal to or higher than this number.
In 2018, Battlefield V by DICE, priced as a premium game from EA, held the title for the most simultaneous players among all their titles. At its best, it boasted 116,000 concurrent players on Steam. If cross-play had been available back then, it’s possible that this number could have skyrocketed further, as players from different platforms might have joined forces to play together.
The most simultaneous players ever recorded for any Electronic Arts (EA) game is currently held by Respawn Entertainment’s free battle royale shooter, Apex Legends. This game boasts an impressive peak of 624,473 concurrent players, which is a significant number given that it’s free to play.
Although that figure is significant, it doesn’t necessarily imply more than 250,000 people purchased the game on Steam individually. The game, Split Fiction, much like previous titles from Hazelght, offers a Friend’s Pass. This allows one owner of the game to share it with a friend, as the game is designed for cooperative play.
As a gamer myself, I’d guess that tally encompasses those logged in through the Friend Pass too. Even if we cut it in half, we’re still talking about more than 120,000 people who purchased it. And let’s not forget, this figure doesn’t account for console players either.
I’m eagerly awaiting for Electronic Arts (EA) to disclose sales figures for the game shortly, so we can determine if it’s also a financial triumph in addition to being well-received. Given Hazelight Studios’ past track record, there’s a good chance that this game will be another commercial hit for both EA and its developers.
