FragPunk Shoots to the Top on Steam

Summary

  • FragPunk reached nearly 114,000 concurrent Steam players within days of its March 6 release.
  • The free-to-play hero shooter is currently the 6th Top Seller on Steam.
  • FragPunk’s Steam user reviews have also shifted from “Mixed” to “Mostly Positive” over the past three days.

The free-to-play first-person shooter game titled “FragPunk” has made an outstanding debut on Steam, boasting over 110,000 simultaneous players during the early days of March 2025. Notably, these high player counts appear to have generated substantial income for the game as well.

Created by Bad Guitar Studio, part of Thunder Fire Studio under NetEase, the vibrant team-based shooter game called FragPunk was released on March 6, 20XX. Before this, closed alpha and beta testing phases took place from June to October in the previous year.

In just three days, FragPunk has amassed significant unofficial player numbers. As per SteamDB statistics, this hero shooter has been steadily gaining popularity since its debut, breaking a new daily concurrent player record every single day. Its latest achievement was reaching 113,946 concurrent players on Valve’s platform, placing it as the 16th most played game on Steam on March 9.

FragPunk’s Steam Reviews Are Now ‘Mostly Positive’

3 days after its debut, I’m thrilled to see that Bad Guitar Studio’s title has transformed from “Mixed” reviews on Steam to “Mostly Positive”. Initially, the game received a less favorable response due to players’ discontent with FragPunk’s monetization strategies. These tactics, such as two types of memberships, premium battle passes, and nine distinct currencies, were perceived as aggressive by some players. However, it seems that many of the initial critics have moved on, as positive user scores from the subsequent days have been prevalent. Currently, the game boasts a 71.15% positive rating based on 10,206 reviews.

FragPunk Already Seems To Be Making a Lot of Money

Regardless of whether they’re aggressive or not, it appears that FragPunk’s monetization strategies are proving successful. The hero shooter currently stands sixth on Steam’s Top Sellers list, which tracks total in-game spending over the past few days. Only five Steam products have earned more money during the second weekend of March 2025 than FragPunk: Counter-Strike 2, Split Fiction, Monster Hunter Wilds, REPO, and the Steam Deck—in that order.

Although Steam’s platform appears to be the primary contributor to FragPunk‘s current popularity, data from SteamDB doesn’t give a complete picture. This is because the scraper only monitors activity on public Steam accounts. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that FragPunk can also be played on the Epic Games Store. Initially, Bad Guitar Studio intended to launch FragPunk simultaneously on various platforms, but ultimately postponed the console versions of the game at the last minute. The developer has yet to announce a new release date for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions of the free-to-play title.
