The Elbaf storyline in “One Piece” has undeniably proven to be one of the most engaging and fulfilling so far, consistently meeting and often exceeding fan expectations. It’s no secret that Elbaf never fails to impress week after week, introducing some of the most intriguing antagonists the series has seen yet, while simultaneously deepening the world of “One Piece.” As anticipated, the lore surrounding Nika has been significantly expanded upon in the Elbaf arc of “One Piece,” and this expansion is certainly evident.

Over the years, I’ve heard countless stories and legends about Nika, a concept that fans have long been familiar with. Recently, Oda has added new layers to these tales, revealing a more ominous side of the Liberation Army’s Warrior, which we now know as Dark Nika.

The Concept Of Dark Nika Is Valid

Though the idea of Dark Nika may appear ludicrous to certain individuals, it holds substantial merit when examining the mythological history that has been passed down in Elbaf for centuries. The figure known as Nika is said to be an ancient deity.

First World

Fires swept across the landscape, causing people to yield to their passions and reach for the off-limits Sun. Enslaved individuals pleaded, and a Solar deity materialized. The Terrestrial deity grew angry, joining forces with the serpent of eternal flames, casting the world into destruction and shadow. They would not cross paths again.

This version maintains the original’s dramatic tone while using more contemporary language and improving readability for modern audiences.

Second World

Life stirred in the emptiness, and the Forest Deity unleashed its demons. The Sun merely fanned the flames of conflict. People from both half-moon and full-moon realms dreamt, dreamt deeply. Humans killed the Sun and ascended to deities, enraging the Sea God. They would never meet again in this lifetime.

Third World

Amidst turmoil, there lies a silence. The disturbed echo recalls the anticipated moment, and catches whispers of a shattered moon’s song. The God of the Sun jigs and chuckles, guiding the realm towards its twilight. The solar orb shall resurface again, ushering in a new dawn. Indeed, this time, they will reunite once more.

In the first great epoch, as per legend, the deity known as Nika, or the Sun God, made his appearance. He engaged in a fierce battle with the Earth God and the Fire-Breathing Serpent during this time. The world met its end along with all life forms. In the subsequent world, tales tell us that Nika returned, and it is said that he did so through Joy Boy, who absorbed the powers of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. He waged war against Imu and other rulers, leading his allies in the fight against darkness from the Ancient Kingdom. Once again, humanity managed to vanquish the Sun God, but the world was plunged into darkness and eventually met its demise. Many speculate that this is Nika’s work, as evidenced by the Giants of Elbaf’s accounts of him. In the One Piece universe, it is widely believed that the world sank 200 meters beneath the ocean, presumably due to Nika’s actions.

In essence, there’s no doubt that Nika is seen by all as a figure who emerges in times of crisis for the people, guided by their desires and those of the oppressed worldwide. When tyrants and rulers misuse power to suppress the masses, Nika consistently appears and responds to their pleas. However, the mystery lies in what happens after. Some view Nika as a liberator, similar to how Luffy is labeled a Warrior of Liberation. Others believe that Nika governs the entire world, while some think Nika is the World’s Destroyer, causing chaos and darkness. There are even those who consider Nika the God of Laughter, though it’s clear that there have been multiple interpretations of Nika in mythology, based on the Harley’s understanding.

To be frank, I’m not surprised there could be a ‘Dark Nikab’ figure as well. In the collective consciousness, Nikab is often seen as the deity of destruction, casting a shadow over the world. It’s widely believed that he wields such dark powers.

How Nika Emerged From The Nightmares Of Children

The Children Fear Nika As A Destroyer

In chapter 1142 of “One Piece”, we encounter Nika again, but this time he appears as a destructive force. This version of Nika is rooted in the terrifying dreams of the children from Elbaf. At Walrus School, the kids were asked to depict their most frightening nightmares, and unsurprisingly, many saw Nika as one of the scariest things imaginable. Many believe that Nika will eventually bring about the destruction of the world, a belief shared by not just the children but also numerous adults in the “One Piece” universe.

In this scenario, these terrifying dreams were made real through the potent abilities of Saint Sommers, an individual who appears capable of transforming people’s most dreadful nightmares into reality.

As the Holy Knights initiated their assault, the children’s darkest fears materialized, eventually targeting Elbaf. The colossal serpent, Jormungandr, was first spotted wreaking havoc at the Walrus School, necessitating a combined effort from Saul and Kiba to subdue it. Other manifestations are still emerging, encompassing the immense power of mythical beings like Fenrir, Draugr, Nidhoggr, and Loki himself, as well as Dark Nika, who in this incarnation is perceived as a harbinger of global destruction, even affecting Elbaf.

Can Two Nika Devil Fruits Exist?

The Idea Isn’t Impossible

Could it be that the mythical character known as Dark Nika truly exists, or is it just a dream shared by children and some adults? As of now, this remains uncertain, but it’s not impossible. According to Vegapunk’s theory, Devil Fruits are manifestations of human aspirations and visions for the future. Since each Devil Fruit in the One Piece world represents a unique form of evolution desired by someone, if Nika exists as both the Warrior of Liberation and God of Laughter, and the God of Destruction, then it’s plausible that two distinct Nika Devil Fruits could exist. One person might possess the power of the Warrior of Liberation (like Luffy), while another individual could wield the power of the Warrior of Destruction (perhaps Loki).
