Two weeks ago, I was among those fortunate enough to get a first glance at the second and final season of Andor. It featured pulse-pounding action sequences and brought back beloved characters like Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera. We also got another hint about the season’s link with Rogue One, as Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Krennic made an appearance, standing ominously in front of an incomplete Death Star. Although there were only snippets of dialogue scattered here and there, the trailer was backed by fitting music: “The Revolution Starts Now” by Steve Earle. It really stirred up a much-needed burst of excitement within the Star Wars community.

Director-screenwriter and executive producer Tony Gilroy, along with various other cast members, have been given an opportunity to share their insights on the latest season of “Andor”. In a striking manner, Season 2’s hook promises an extraordinary beginning. For enthusiasts of the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels,” they have followed the formation of the Rebellion from a single team’s perspective. However, “Andor” carries the unique responsibility and weighty task of illustrating how a revolution originates on a galactic scale from scratch. The show’s potent message, as expressed during Maarva Andor’s (Fiona Shaw) speech in Season 1’s “Rix Road,” suggests that rebellion lies within people, ready to ignite at any moment. In her words, she accused Ferrix of being complacent, stating that the rise of the Empire wasn’t solely due to the fall of the Jedi Order or Emperor Palpatine’s takeover, but because planets like Ferrix “let it grow…” The Empire, as Maarva put it, is a disease that flourishes in darkness. It thrives when we are asleep. Now, in Season 2, the galaxy isn’t merely awake; it’s standing up for itself, one courageous act at a time.

The supporting actors, such as Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, commended the crew for their impressive work on this advanced science fiction series, saying “Everyone does their homework, and you can tell.” Adria Arjona further emphasized the show’s authentic portrayal of human experiences, stating: “It’s very real. It’s incredibly honest, and it just so happens to be in a distant galaxy.”

A Horrifying Chapter In The Empire’s History May Change Mon Mothma Forever

In the upcoming Season 2, there are indications that a significant protest scene will play a crucial role. There have been whispers suggesting this event could be one of the Empire’s grimiest chapters in its history of brutality and suppression. This tragic incident, known as the Ghorman Massacre, is said to have originated from folklore. The horror is immense. In the year preceding Luke Skywalker’s destruction of the Death Star (2 BBY), a group of unarmed protesters in Ghorman decided to occupy a landing zone intended for Grand Moff Tarkin’s shuttle. Unbeknownst to them, Tarkin arrives without notice, resulting in the deaths of the protesters. It is suggested that Emperor Palpatine may have given his approval for this ruthless act.

In the authentic Star Wars storyline, although it’s less extreme, the events remain grim. Imperial soldiers continue to attack protesters on Ghorman, making it one of the most horrific incidents prior to the emergence of the Rebellion. If this unfolds in Andor, it seems likely that Mon Mothma will confront the harsh truth that diplomacy and non-violent strategies are no longer viable. Instead, a fully armed rebellion might be the only way to prevent the escalating totalitarian Empire from gaining even more power.
