One such chilling experience is hidden within Frostflow Lighthouse, a location nestled between Dawnstar and Winterhold. This place could easily be part of a conventional horror story or movie. The events that unfold at Frostflow Lighthouse, detailed in the game’s Frostflow Abyss side quest, are exceptionally dark. Players who don’t pay close attention to the map might overlook this location during their gaming sessions.

Something is Wrong at Frostflow Lighthouse

Stepping inside Frostflow Lighthouse, gamers will encounter a chaotic scene: a shattered table, a splintered chair, and the grisly sight of a Redguard woman who met a gruesome end, pinned to the floor by an ax. This unfortunate soul is none other than Ramati, who had moved here from Hammerfell with her husband Habd, along with their children Mani and Sudi, after years of saving up. Yet, what was meant to be a happy new beginning for this family turned into a living nightmare as it soon became apparent that all was not well in their new abode.

Initially, the issues seemed minor as Ramati discovered some items like her favorite cooking pot and personal mementos were missing from the cellar of the lighthouse. At first, she suspected her children, who were discontent with their new living conditions, but the truth was far more ominous. In fact, Sudi, one of the daughters, began to hear strange noises emanating from the basement, which marked a significant escalation in this unfortunate family’s predicament.

A Grisly Scene

Upon attributing the sounds to Skeevers, large rat-like creatures, Habd chose to venture into town to purchase traps. Though his journey was brief, a horrifying incident occurred at the lighthouse during his absence, leaving him to return to a chilling and terrifying spectacle. More precisely, Habd discovered the lighthouse in a condition similar to that of the player, his wife lying lifeless in the entrance hall.

As I stepped into my gaming den, there was definitely some life stirring within the lighthouse – not the usual kind of NPC life, though. Instead, I stumbled upon a colossal bug-like creature, a Chauraus, making itself at home in my humble abode. After taking care of that hideous arthropod, it became clear that this intruder was behind the strange noises and missing items in the cellar. So, with a newfound sense of determination, I decided it was high time to delve deeper into the mystery unfolding beneath my gaming sanctuary.

The Frostflow Abyss

During Habd’s exploration while investigating, details of what actually happened remain unclear. However, it is crystal clear that he was apprehended by Falmer, strange beings who inhabit the depths of Skyrim, residing in an underground area linked to the cellar of the lighthouse. Despite his capture, Habd put up a fight and was bitten by a venomous Chauraus during the struggle.

Overwhelmed by the effects of that fateful bite, I found myself gripped by a strange feverishness, and as my Falmer captors locked me away in a cell with my daughter, Sudi, it seemed as if delirium had taken hold. In my confused state, I may have failed to disclose the tragic news of her mother’s passing, or perhaps, I was merely unable to find the words to describe such a gruesome fate.

Additionally, Sudi inquired from Habd about her brother, Mani, seeking updates. However, Habd failed to share any information on this matter. Although details regarding Mani’s final moments are somewhat unclear, it can be ascertained that he was eventually murdered by the Falmer within their camp hidden beneath the cellars of the lighthouse. It’s possible that Habd stumbled upon this tragic truth during his investigation, leaving him in a difficult position to convey such grim news to Mani.

In the course of their joint captivity, several incidents occurred. Initially, the Falmer transported other prisoners to their cells, albeit their stays were brief – Sudi could hear their agonizing cries after they had been escorted away. Before Habd was taken from his cell, he managed to give a dagger to Sudi. Tragically, it was this very weapon that the daughter later used to end her life.

Regarding what transpired with Habd following his confinement, the Falmer led him further into the depths. It was there that he met his fate at the jaws of a Chaurus Reaper, leaving his remains within the beast for players to discover. In Skyrim, these players will be instructed to transport those remains to the summit of the lighthouse, where they will set them ablaze, thereby concluding the family’s narrative and the Frostflow Abyss quest.
