So far, Season 3 of the Prime Video series “Reacher” has kept audiences on the edge of their seats with its gripping storyline. The titular character finds himself in a precarious situation as he embarks on a perilous mission. From the get-go, it was evident that Reacher needed to be at his peak to outsmart his adversaries. The first four episodes skillfully advanced the plot, leaving viewers curious about the true identity of Julius McCabe. Simultaneously, Reacher learns that his arch-nemesis, Frances Quinn, is still alive and operating in the black market arms trade. However, it was later revealed that McCabe and Quinn are one and the same person. After their initial encounter, Quinn suffered memory loss and can’t recall who Reacher, the former U.S. army general, is. The climactic ending of the fifth episode suggests that the long-awaited confrontation between Reacher and Quinn is about to happen, and Reacher is prepared to go to extreme lengths, including taking Quinn’s life.
In the world of Reacher, things aren’t swift or straightforward, and viewers will have to be patient for the climax. The predicament of Zachary Beck becomes more dire with every ticking minute, and just when he thinks he has things under control, Reacher manages to entangle him further in complex dilemmas. Although Episode 5 showcased Reacher’s tactical prowess, the sixth installment finds our protagonist grappling with his loyalty towards Beck. However, danger lurks ominously for Reacher as the next corner turns.
McCabe and Reacher finally meet, but things get dangerous for Beck

In episode 6 titled “Smoke on the Water,” the story resumes from where episode 5 ended, with the much-anticipated encounter between McCabe and Reacher unfolding. This encounter promises a series of dramatic disclosures and dynamic shifts in allegiances. To begin with, McCabe criticized Beck for hiring an ATF agent as one of their domestic help, considering it a foolish move. He refused to continue the discussion until Beck admitted his mistake and apologized. McCabe made it plain that he wanted to end Beck’s life but couldn’t due to his reputation among buyers. Consequently, Beck was given another chance to survive. Meanwhile, McCabe complimented Reacher on his performance and requested him to remain involved in the forthcoming exchange, implying that he didn’t recognize Reacher.
Earlier events suggest McCabe, or Quinn as he’s also known, holds a powerful position and controls the situation. Yet, it appears he requires aid from Russian criminal elements and is in their debt. In an encounter with a Russian gangster, McCabe requests more time to repay his debt in full. The gangster warns him of severe repercussions if the payment isn’t made promptly. The interaction concludes with McCabe instructing Reacher to keep Beck away from him. In a separate meeting between Reacher and McCabe, one of McCabe’s associates walked by with a new dress intended for a woman. Reacher was surprised to see a busy man like McCabe involved in relationships, but was informed that the dress was actually for a young girl they had captured earlier. This leads Reacher to suspect Teresa Daniels might still be alive. Susan Duffy, observing from afar, also noticed the man with the female dress and learned the address of the shop.
Did [Spoiler] get to know about Reacher’s true identity?

In the narrative, I, Duffy, accompanied my partner Guillermo to a store and inquired about the contact number of the individual who purchased the green dress. The shopkeeper provided me with the number, yet regrettably, I couldn’t reach them. Soon after, Reacher and his son Richard arrived in town for repairs on Richard’s toy gun, which he had bought as a gift for his father. As they entered town, Reacher separated from Richard to converse with me about something important. However, complications ensued when Guillermo was present, and Richard recognized him. For those who have closely followed this season, you might recall that Guillermo is the same police officer that Reacher shot during Richard’s staged kidnapping incident. According to Richard, Guillermo should be deceased by now. When he saw him, the situation quickly escalated for the undercover agent. While returning to our residence, Reacher halted the vehicle and extracted Richard from it to disclose some facts. He explained that Richard was the only person who could assist him and his father, but only if he kept this truth concealed. Moreover, Reacher emphasized that he valued Richard, but would not hesitate to eliminate him if his cover were exposed.
In other locations, McCabe is currently investigating the issues that are putting him in harm’s way. Eventually, he discovers that an Army soldier had information on one of their vehicles. Consequently, two of his associates confronted McCabe, brutally attacking him to extract the name of the person who instructed him to investigate the license plate. Meanwhile, two of McCabe’s men headed towards Neagley’s office with the intent to harm her. However, Neagley outwitted them, leading to her killing both assailants. Neagley then contacted Reacher to inform him about the two men who intended to kill her, but she had killed them first. This incident made Reacher suspect that McCabe is aware of his presence and plans.
Reacher’s cover is blown, while the search for Teresa continues

In a turn of events, McCabe visited Beck’s residence where he disclosed his connection with the 110th special investigators unit. Beck revealed that Reacher was also part of this unit. Upon discovering this, McCabe instructed Paulie to eliminate Reacher. However, Reacher eluded them and fled into the forest, eventually turning the tables and brutally killing McCabe’s men. He then made it to the town and sought refuge in a laundromat. Meanwhile, back at Beck’s house, McCabe commanded Paulie to lead his son into the kitchen for a deadly game of Russian Roulette. Despite Beck’s pleas to spare his child, McCabe remained indifferent and threatened him with more severe consequences if he had asked Paulie to subject Richard to physical harm in an aggressive manner, a detail from the book that was omitted from the series adaptation.
The story concludes with Duffy and Reacher understanding that Teresa could be stationed on a ship in the middle of the sea at Maine’s port. They rush to the vessel, uncovering hints about Teresa’s whereabouts but finding her absent. McCabe’s henchman arrived, leading to a brawl. A bullet hit the lamp, sparking a fire. Duffy attacked the man repeatedly, while Reacher ensured the blaze continued. Before departing from the ship, they learned that McCabe had moved the girl elsewhere. They left the boat and headed towards the mainland. However, Duffy laments the death of the man who could have provided more information about Teresa, and Reacher’s identity is now exposed. The future looks grim for them, but Reacher appears to have a strategy and instructs Duffy to prepare for their journey to Los Angeles.
Without a doubt, “Smoke on the Water” has been the outstanding episode of the season thus far. It was brimming with action, tense scenes, and superb narrative craftsmanship. Brian Tee delivered an exceptional performance as a merciless character, while Sonya Cassidy continues to shine among the stellar cast this season. I’m eager to discover the reasons behind their journey to Los Angeles and what secrets they are trying to uncover there.
The sixth episode of Reacher Season 3 is streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
