In a surprising twist for many fans, the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A has caused quite a stir by revealing that Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile will be the available starters. While some fans are pleased, others have mixed feelings about these selections. Yet, it’s possible that Pokemon Legends: Z-A could help these less popular monsters finally shine. However, this game leaves out a starter Pokémon that deserves the same spotlight in the next installment of the Pokemon Legends series following Z-A.
In a surprising twist, not many fans might have foreseen two starter Pokémons originating from the same generation following the groundbreaking move of Pokémon Legends: Arceus featuring starters from three distinct generations. The advantage of reintroducing starters from past generations lies in their opportunity to captivate audiences once more, as shown by the regional variants of the starters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which are likely to be emulated in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. With it seeming probable that these three Pokémons will receive new forms in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Gen 5’s Snivy appears to be missing out on the excitement now that the starters from Pokémon Black and White have already made appearances in the Legends series.
Snivy Would Be the Odd Mon Out if it Isn’t a Starter for the Next Pokemon Legends Game
Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Legends: Z-A Have Covered Nearly All Gen 2 and 5 Starters
With Pokemon Legends: Z-A introducing Chikorita and Totodile as its starters, joining Cyndaquil from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it means all three Gen 2 starters are now included in the Pokemon Legends series. Furthermore, two of the three starters from Gen 5 have also been featured – Oshawott in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Tepig in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Snivy, the remaining Gen 5 starter, is yet to appear in a Pokemon Legends game, making it a strong contender for the starter lineup of another potential Pokemon Legends title.
Snivy hasn’t always been a starter Pokemon that stirs much debate among fans – neither adored nor overlooked. This could be why it hasn’t received as much attention as other starters, such as those in the Pokemon Legends series. But just because Snivy isn’t often at the center of discussions doesn’t mean it lacks the ability to shine brightly. In fact, its evolved form Serperior has significant competitive potential. Now that its fellow Gen 5 starters are back in the limelight, it seems likely that Snivy will get its chance to shine as well.
Pokemon Rarely Leaves One Member of a Starter Trio Hanging
In the Pokemon series, when one member of a starter trio (like Oshawott, Tepig, or Snivy) gets a new form, it’s typical for the other two members in that trio to follow suit. While there are instances where exceptions occur (such as Charizard having two version-exclusive Mega Evolutions), any discrepancies in treatment are usually addressed quickly, such as when Swampert and Sceptile received their Mega Evolutions in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire following Blaziken’s Mega Evolution in X and Y. Therefore, if Oshawott and Tepig are set to gain new forms, it’s unlikely that Snivy will be left out for long, especially since Chikorita and Totodile may also receive new evolutions to match Cyndaquil’s Hisuian evolution.
Following this line of thought, it seems reasonable to expect that Litten and Popplio could also receive new forms after Rowlet’s Hisuian evolution in “Legends: Arceus,” possibly paving the way for a trio consisting of Snivy, Litten, and Popplio in a potential third installment of the “Pokemon Legends” series.
It’s uncertain whether the starters in “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” will receive new Mega Evolutions or only regional forms like “Legends: Arceus,” but if Snivy is excluded from any evolutionary changes, it could disrupt the balance of the starter trio. As the “Pokemon” series evolves its “Legends” concept, the direction for this spin-off may become more apparent. Regardless of what lies ahead for this subseries, it would be wise to incorporate Snivy in some way.
