While there’s no shortage of Star Wars video games, prepare to add one more to the pile soon, and this one isn’t your typical third-person action game.
The unveiling of the new game will happen at the Star Wars Celebration event taking place on April 19. This gathering will feature multiple Star Wars-related activities and updates.
Star Wars Tactics Game Will Be A Reality Soon

The as-yet-unnamed game will be a strategic combat game set in the Star Wars universe. It resembles games such as XCOM and Final Fantasy Tactics, where you take turns making moves on a battlefield. If you’re not familiar with this type of gameplay, imagine commanding troops in a tactical manner to overcome your opponents.
Based on the tweet by the official Lucasfilm Games Twitter/X account, it will be developed by Bit Reactor. Although the studio hasn’t released any standalone games yet, it has helped develop titles such as XCOM, Civilization, Gears of War, and more. It’s unknown whether the studio will solely develop this new Star Wars tactical game.
It appears that the official Star Wars page has announced an upcoming event, during which there will be a developer panel involving Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. This means that representatives from both these companies will be discussing the latest developments related to Star Wars in a public setting.
Bit Reactor Developer Panel featuring Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games
4:30PM – 5:30PM, Live on the Galaxy Stage
Join Bit Reactor, along with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, for a first look at a new Star Wars turn-based tactics game.
Based on the wording, the turn-based tactics game will be the only game discussed in the panel. Does this mean Respawn is co-developing with Bit Reactor. Seeing this initially, I thought it meant that Respawn was going to unveil the third chapter of the Star Wars Jedi game, which we know is in development to wrap up the trilogy.
Will this Star Wars turn-based tactics game be a AAA production or one that’s aimed at mobile devices? If Respawn’s somehow involved, chances are, this is set for consoles and PC. While we’ve had loads of Star Wars first-person and third-person action games, one that’s turn-based? Yeah, not so much.
Let’s hope Bit Reactor blows our blasters of our holsters when the game is revealed on April 19.
The latest high-budget Star Wars game released was Star Wars Outlaws by Ubisoft, which was released in August 2024. While it didn’t reach the critical or commercial heights Ubisoft was aiming for, it’s not a bad game by any means. Over on Open Critic, the game has a respectable 75 critic average across over 170 reviews.
In other updates about Star Wars games, a recent statement from the COO of Saber Interactive has sparked optimism that the remake of Knights of the Old Republic may eventually be released.
