Players who want to roleplay as a shinobi in Rise of the Ronin can don the Ninja Descendant set, which is modeled after Ryu Hayabusa’s iconic getup in the Ninja Gaiden series. It’s a stylish and practical armor set, but if you want to get it, you’ll need to make a fair bit of progress into the game’s story.
In this guide, we’ll be covering how you can get the Ninja Descendant armor, including a few steps early into the Rise of the Ronin campaign that players will want to do first.
Rise of the Ronin: How to Get The Ninja Descendant Set
Players who preordered Rise of the Ronin should immediately get the Iga Ninja set along with the Hayabusa-ryu Combat Style. For everyone else, you can get Ninja Descendant variant of the armor by maxing your Bond level with Yasusuke Sawamura in Edo.
The Iga Ninja and Ninja Descendant sets are identical, apart from minor color differences.
Before you go rushing through the main story to reach Yasusuke, you’ll want to meet up with him first in Yokohama. To do so, you’ll need to finish the following steps:
- Complete the main mission in the US Consul involving the assassination attempt on Townsend Harris.
- After starting the Yokohama’s Shadow quest, go to the Yokohama Grand Villa and speak with Yukichi Fukuzawa to start the Cultural Exchange quest.
- Complete the side quest with Yukichi Fukuzawa aboard one of the American Black Ships
After completing Fukuzawa’s side quest, you’ll form a bond with both him and Sawamura. Here, you’ll learn the Tatsumi-ryu and Hayabusa-ryu styles for katanas.
Yasusuke Sawamura Location in Edo
Sawamura is in the Ninja Villa, near the northwest Veiled Edge banner in Kojimachi. Fast travel to the banner, then enter the hut next to it. Take the rope down into the basement, then speak with Sawamura in the arena.
To get the Ninja Gaiden armor, you need to reach Bond Level 4 with Sawamura. You can do this by either giving him gifts or training with him repeatedly. For gifts, he’ll appreciate the following:
- Imported Beer
- Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Giving him either of these should boost your Bond with him by a decent amount, though for players who really want to get the Ninja Descendant armor set, it’s best to continuously spar with him instead.
You can keep challenging Sawamura, and each time you win, you’ll earn Bond points. To make it quicker and simpler, we suggest reducing the difficulty level to Dawn.
While you’re at the Ninja Villa, be sure to grab the Elite Ninja sword hidden behind a rotating wall. Look for scrape marks on the floor boards before you drop down the basement hatch.
