This adjustment might also result in reduced discounts for viewers. As a dedicated movie buff who’s also a fan of streaming platforms like Twitch, I’ve noticed some noteworthy evolutions in recent times. For instance, they’ve tweaked their subscription costs and introduced monetization methods for non-partner or affiliate accounts. While some of these modifications have garnered positive responses from the community, it’s still unclear how this particular move will be received across the board.

On Twitch, I now have the ability to control whether or not discounted gifted subscription bundles are offered to my viewers. Previously, when multiple subscriptions were gifted on the platform, a discount was often applied, typically starting at five subscriptions. However, I can now choose to disable this discount, ensuring that the subscription price remains consistent. To do so, I need to access my dashboard, navigate to monetization and subscriptions, and then toggle off the option for Shared Gift Subs Discounts.

Twitch Sub Discounts Change in Some Ways and Don’t in Others

It’s possible that some people are curious about who will gain from this choice. Previously, if Twitch offered a discount on gifted subs, the streamer’s earnings would decrease proportionally, considering the profit share of each subscription. If this feature is deactivated, viewers won’t be able to purchase gifted Twitch subscriptions at a lower price during most of the platform’s promotional periods. For channels that opt out of these discounts, there may be fewer gifted subs than usual, but any subs given to the streamer during this time will be at the regular price, resulting in them receiving their full share. Some viewers who appreciate supporting streamers and their communities through discounted opportunities might not welcome this change, but streamers might prefer to receive a larger cash amount per sub by enabling this option.

In contrast to the general rule for this modification, there’s an exception for the event known as “SUBtember” on Twitch. During this time, subscriptions are discounted across the platform. However, streamers won’t be able to opt out during this period of subscription discounts. Despite this, it’s not expected to negatively affect streamers. In fact, during SUBtember, Twitch adjusts by taking a smaller commission and giving the streamer their regular earnings as if the subscription were at its full price. This practice will persist, meaning that streamers who activate this new feature won’t notice any changes in comparison to the rest of the platform during SUBtember.
