Near the conclusion of the main story mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will uncover how Hanzo deceived the Iggan people, leading to the demise of Naoe’s father and numerous others. Additionally, they’ll discover the intricate bond between Hanzo and Naoe’s parents, a relationship that ultimately forced him into exile from his homeland.
In the light of these disclosures, Naoe finds herself furious and contemplates retaliating against Hanzo due to the grave harm he’s inflicted upon her and her community. However, there exists within her a desire to pardon his wrongdoings and collaborate with him in uncovering the truth about her mother. Much like in the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the choice is left up to the player.
Should You Forgive or Attack Hanzo?
In contrast to many other significant decisions in ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’, whether players opt for an attack or forgiveness towards Hanzo carries weight, at least temporarily. As you might guess, electing to attack Hanzo will lead to a battle, and a challenging one indeed. Yet, it’s important to note that there are no long-term repercussions stemming from either choice; Hanzo’s outcome remains unchanged regardless. Players should pick to attack Hanzo if they wish to test their combat abilities or forgive him if they simply want to progress with the narrative.
What Happens if You Forgive Hanzo?
If players opt for forgiveness towards Hanzo, Naoe will deliver an emotional address. Following this speech, Naoe and Hanzo come to terms and decide to collaborate to uncover the truth regarding Naoe’s mother. Their farewell dialogue may vary depending on the player’s choice of forgiving or attacking Hanzo, but their departure remains similar in essence.
What Happens if You Attack Hanzo?
As a gamer, I find myself faced with a pivotal decision when it comes to Hanzo. If I decide to attack him, he’ll make it clear that he won’t be holding back. This gives Naoe another opportunity to show mercy towards Hanzo. If I choose forgiveness, the scenario unfolds much like before. However, if I opt for a more aggressive approach and take Hanzo down, I’m in for a tough and grueling boss fight, as he proves to be quite formidable in combat.

Two aspects of fighting Hanzo may prove challenging: his smoke bombs and his triple kunai attack. The smoke bombs could make it hard for Naoe to keep track of him, while the trajectory of the triple kunai can be tough to avoid. Players might try to block or parry them, but a more effective strategy is to prevent Hanzo from launching them in the first place.

As a gamer, I’d say: I should stick close to Hanzo, peppering him with attacks whenever he’s not slashing. If I can be relentless and time my abilities correctly, I can force Hanzo to hold back on using his kunai. From there, it’s all about dodging, parrying, and wearing him down until he’s knocked out.

After the battle concludes, Naoe gets an opportunity to eliminate Hanzo permanently. Yet, she opts for forgiveness instead, making her previous choice somewhat unnecessary. Just like their intense confrontation that has just transpired, this decision of theirs can be seen as anticlimactic. They’ll join forces to uncover the truth about Naoe’s mother, and Hanzo will hobble away to battle another time.
