A recently published PlayStation patent outlines a solar-powered controller design, potentially alleviating any issues you may encounter related to battery charging.
Tech4Gamers has highlighted a newly published patent by Sony Interactive Entertainment titled ‘Operation Device’. This patent outlines a potential PlayStation controller design, which incorporates multiple solar panels (photovoltaic elements) on its exterior. The design also includes an energy storage compartment that collects the power produced by these solar panels, allowing the device to be charged using solar energy.
The diagrams found on the site indicate that solar panels (photovoltaic elements) are intended for installation on the upper portion of the device, surrounding the joysticks and various controls. When exposed to sunlight, this device will self-charge.
As a gamer, I’m excited about Sony’s plan to tackle the battery issue in PlayStation controllers. You see, right now, these controllers rely on replaceable or rechargeable batteries to function, and without them, they’re just decorative pieces. But with their innovative new patent, Sony aims to change that by creating a controller that can charge its battery using an external power source. This way, I won’t have to worry about running out of juice in the middle of my gaming marathons!
