Dragon Ball: 8 Strongest Evil Versions of Goku in the Multiverse, Ranked

Goku is a legendary hero in the Dragon Ball series, famous for saving the universe countless times—he’s even been allowed to keep his physical form after death! While he’s known as one of the kindest and most heroic Saiyans ever, that’s not necessarily true in every alternate universe.

Goku has several surprisingly dangerous alternate versions in other timelines – whether they’re doppelgängers, body-snatchers, or simply a version of him who never suffered a childhood head injury. These evil Gokus are incredibly powerful and pose a real threat to the entire Dragon Ball multiverse, showing absolutely no mercy.

8. Ginyu-Goku Almost Got Away With Stealing Goku’s Body

Dragon Ball Z

The Namek Saga was the first time in Dragon Ball that a villain managed to switch bodies with Goku and attempt to steal his strength. After Captain Ginyu recognizes how powerful Goku is, he swaps bodies with him and immediately begins searching for the Dragon Balls. However, Ginyu quickly discovers he doesn’t know how to use Goku’s techniques, like the Kaioken.

When Ginyu switched bodies with Goku, the resulting form, Ginyu-Goku, was surprisingly weak, with a power level of only 23,000 – about the same as Zarbon. Unable to access his full strength, Ginyu-Goku attempted to switch bodies with Vegeta, but accidentally returned Goku to his original form. While Ginyu-Goku might have been dangerous in earlier parts of the series, he wasn’t much of a challenge during his brief appearance on Namek.

7. Turles Was the Original Evil Goku

The Tree of Might

In the movie Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, the villain Turles is essentially an evil counterpart to Goku. He isn’t actually Goku himself, but another Saiyan who looks remarkably similar. The character is designed to show what Goku’s life could have been like if he hadn’t suffered the accident that changed his path on Earth.

When Turles ate the Fruit of the Tree of Might, his power level jumped dramatically, from 19,000 to over 300,000 – putting him only a little weaker than Frieza in his first form. This was an incredible increase in strength, and if he’d eaten another fruit, he likely would have become even more powerful than Frieza.

6. Shadow Goku is a Dark Replica of GT Goku

Dragon Ball Heroes

Shadow Goku is a dark version of Kid Goku from Dragon Ball GT, created by Black Smoke Shenron in the game Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission. Unlike regular Goku, Shadow Goku can’t become a Super Saiyan and remains in his weaker child form. Interestingly, he can still use powerful attacks like the Spirit Bomb, even though it usually requires a pure heart.

Exactly how powerful Shadow Goku is remains uncertain, but the Dragon Ball Heroes series portrays him as being comparable to the Shadow Dragons. This suggests he’s slightly weaker than the most powerful characters in Dragon Ball GT by the series’ conclusion.

5. Clone Goku Was Created By Android 21

FighterZ

Clone Goku is a bio-android created by Android 21 using cells taken from Goku. He’s modeled after Goku’s strength during the Majin Buu Saga and can use many of Goku’s most powerful attacks from Dragon Ball Z. However, Clones aren’t as capable as the originals, as they are essentially just copies without independent thought.

While Clone Goku is stronger than many fighters, he’s no match for the real Goku. His main strength comes from being created based on a powerful version of Goku to begin with. Even at his strongest, Clone Goku is easily defeated by any Goku seen in Dragon Ball Super.

4. Kakarot is a Version of Goku Who Never Injured His Head

Dragon Ball Heroes

In the video game Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission X, players can encounter a version of Goku called Kakarot who didn’t suffer the head injury he experienced as a child. While Dragon Ball Z briefly mentioned this possibility in a side story, Ultimate Mission X is one of the few times the series really delved into what that alternate timeline would look like.

I’ve observed that this particular Goku, known as Kakarot, comes from a timeline where his father, Bardock, actually survived Frieza’s attack and became incredibly strong. Interestingly, this Kakarot never learned to transform into a Super Saiyan. However, even in his normal state, he’s powerful enough to defeat opponents like Zamasu and Dr. Lychee, with a little help from his father. It’s clear he has a much greater natural talent than most other versions of Goku I’ve seen.

3. Goku Black Stole Goku’s Body & Killed Him in His Universe

Dragon Ball Super

Goku Black is essentially a fusion of Goku and Zamasu. In a possible future, Zamasu uses the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Goku, then kills Goku and begins destroying Future Trunks’ timeline. This transformation into Goku Black also unlocks a Saiyan-like fighting spirit within Zamasu, causing him to fight with the same intense desire for battle as Goku.

In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black, at his peak, is more powerful than both Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta. By taking over Goku’s body, he essentially restarts Goku’s Saiyan abilities, letting him gain power boosts (Zenkai Boosts) even though Goku had already reached Super Saiyan level.

2. Fused Zamasu is a God-Tier Fusion Who’s Half-Goku

Dragon Ball Super

Fused Zamasu is created when Zamasu and Goku Black fuse using the Potara earrings, resulting in a being that is partially Goku. He’s an incredibly powerful and dangerous opponent, particularly in the Dragon Ball Super anime, where his strength is significantly greater. What makes him especially formidable is his immortality, combined with the ability to use energy from Gods, Kais, and Saiyans.

The only way to defeat Fused Zamasu was for Zeno to completely reset the universe, which is exactly what happened. Fused Zamasu was incredibly powerful, even for a fusion, because Zamasu was essentially merging with himself, creating a unique synergy. Goku Black also reached a new level of strength before the fusion, gaining power from multiple Zenkai boosts and mastering Super Saiyan Rosé.

1. The Crimson-Masked Saiyan Kills 99 Versions of Goku Across the Multiverse

Super Dragon Ball heroes

In a different version of the Dragon Ball Super story, Goku Black received a warning from Fu that he was destined to lose his battle against Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks. Instead of facing defeat, this Goku Black escaped to other universes. His goal became to eliminate every version of Goku he could find. Using a special Time Breaker Mask, he transformed into the Crimson-Masked Saiyan and began his hunt.

The Crimson-Masked Saiyan is an incredibly powerful version of Goku, possibly one of the strongest across all realities. He’s known for defeating 99 other versions of Goku during his journeys. This Goku can transform into Super Saiyan Rosé 2 and even Super Saiyan Rosé 3, a form strong enough to defeat Xeno Bardock. At his peak, he’s more powerful than Goku in his Ultra Instinct Sign form, but is still weaker than CC Goku, who is the most powerful CC Saiyan without fusing with anyone else.
