In the world of Solo Leveling, hunters are people with special abilities fueled by mana. Sung Jinwoo is an incredibly powerful hunter, quickly becoming stronger than all the top-ranked hunters. What makes him different is that, unlike most hunters whose strength is fixed, Sung Jinwoo can continuously improve his skills and stats through a unique System.
Beyond powerful hunters, Solo Leveling includes characters with significant potential who aren’t fully realized. If these hunters had received the same opportunities as Sung Jinwoo, or trained with someone like Norma Selner, they likely would have become much stronger throughout the story.
8. Lee Joohee Is Korea’s Rare But Hesitant High-Level Healer
Powerful healers are uncommon in the world of Solo Leveling. In fact, there are only a handful in all of Korea skilled enough to participate in challenging raid parties, making them incredibly sought after. One such healer is Lee Joohee, a highly-ranked B-class hunter who surprisingly chooses to take on easier, lower-level dungeons.
Joohee is skilled enough to participate in raids for B and A-class dungeons, but she struggles with anxiety that holds her back during challenging expeditions and combat. This is unfortunate, as her support magic is powerful – it can greatly boost her teammates and help them survive even the most dangerous dungeons.
7. Kang Taeshik’s Skills Surpass His Official Rank
Even Sung Jinwoo likely would have considered Kang Taeshik’s B-rank in Solo Leveling to be an underestimate. During the Dungeon and Prisoners arc, Taeshik demonstrated incredible speed, stealth, and assassination skills that seemed worthy of an A or S-rank ranking.
Kang Taeshik was the first hunter to truly challenge Sung Jinwoo. Because his fighting style mirrored Jinwoo’s own, their battle was particularly exciting and hard to predict. Sadly, Taeshik died relatively early in the story, preventing him from becoming a more significant antagonist.

6. Park Jongsoo Is Stronger Than He Looks
A-rank hunters in Solo Leveling often get less attention than S-rank hunters, and Park Jongsoo is a prime example. He’s a successful guild master with a history of accomplishments, but his strength isn’t as impressive as the very top hunters in the country.
Park Jongsoo is still a very capable hunter, able to compete with others at his level. He demonstrated this impressively in the Solo Leveling manhwa, easily defeating Hanekawa with his overwhelming strength and fighting skills.
5. Choi Jong-In’s Screentime Limits His Impact
Fans often debate whether Choi Jong-In deserves his nickname, ‘Korea’s Ultimate Soldier,’ because he hasn’t consistently demonstrated exceptional strength throughout the series. While many initially thought he was the most powerful hunter, both Cha Hae-In and, notably, Sung Jinwoo have proven to be stronger, making a bigger impact in important fights.
I’ve always been impressed by Choi Jong-In’s fire magic – it’s seriously one of the strongest powers we’ve seen. The frustrating thing is, he doesn’t get enough time on screen to really show us how powerful he is. Honestly, I think he would have benefitted much more from Norma Selner’s upgrade than Hwang Dong-Soo did. It feels like a missed opportunity, especially since Dong-Soo ended up focusing on international guild stuff anyway.
4. Cha Hae-In Is Solo Leveling’s Strongest Female Hunter
In Solo Leveling, most hunters, aside from Sung Jinwoo, only get slightly stronger over time, and Cha Hae-In is no different. Although she wanted to become more powerful, she couldn’t match Sung Jinwoo’s growth, even with dedicated practice and improved fighting skills.
Cha Hae-In is a remarkably talented individual with the potential to become a powerful leader or host for a powerful entity, thanks to her self-control, incredible magical abilities, and strategic mind. Before Sung Jinwoo became Korea’s strongest hunter, many considered Cha Hae-In to be the most powerful of all.
3. Go Gunhee Is Forced to Hold Back in Battle
In the world of Solo Leveling, Go Gunhee was once considered Korea’s most powerful hunter. He wasn’t just any S-Rank hunter—he was the best of the best, often called the ‘S-Rank among S-Ranks.’ This was because, in addition to his already impressive skills, he was selected as a potential vessel for the Monarch.
Go Gunhee’s age holds him back from using his full strength. Pushing himself too hard in a fight would quickly damage his body, as it struggles to handle the stress of his powers. That’s why he often wants to team up with Sung Jinwoo – he knows his own body is weakening and recognizes Jinwoo’s incredible power represents the future.
2. Sung Il-Hwan Is a Tragic Ruler’s Vessel
Similar to Go Gunhee, Sung Il-Hwan is a powerful hunter controlled by the Rulers. He’s one of the strongest hunters featured in the later parts of the Solo Leveling story, and he significantly helped Sung Jinwoo become the new Shadow Monarch.
Despite having a much younger body, Sung Il-Hwan’s immense power was too much for him to handle. After pushing the borrowed power to its breaking point, his body began to fall apart right before Sung Jinwoo’s eyes.
1. Sung Jinwoo Once Struggled With Mana Reserves
Sung Jinwoo is the world’s most powerful hunter in Solo Leveling. As the Shadow Monarch, he controls a vast shadow army, allowing him to overcome any enemy and protect the world from disaster.
Initially, Sung Jinwoo couldn’t use the Shadow Monarch’s full strength. This meant he struggled with his mana and couldn’t fight at a high level for very long. But once he unlocked Ashborn’s complete power, his abilities greatly increased, and he was no longer held back by those limitations.
