In late May 2026, a new update for Subnautica 2 was released on PC. The update mainly addresses important bugs, but also includes improvements to fish behavior, more places to find resources, and overall performance enhancements.
It’s been ten days since Subnautica 2 became available in early access worldwide on May 14, 2026. The highly anticipated sequel to the underwater survival game has been incredibly successful, selling around 500,000 copies each day. The developers at Unknown Worlds Entertainment are already working to improve the game, releasing their first quick update on May 19th, just five days after launch, and a second one shortly after that.
Second Subnautica 2 Update for May 2026 Makes 11 Changes to the Game
The game received a major update on May 22nd, significantly larger than the previous one. The new patch notes are 175% longer, detailing 11 changes. This update adds more locations to find Silver early in the game, and expands the sources of Troilite for the late game. It also includes improvements to creature behavior, bug fixes, and performance enhancements, particularly on Epic graphics settings. Two issues that caused the game to crash have also been resolved.
The latest update to Subnautica 2 changes how Hammerhead sharks behave. They will no longer be drawn to the lights of your Tadpole submersible, which previously caused them to follow you and sometimes bother your base. Update 2 also includes several fixes for the Tadpole itself. These fixes resolve issues that could unexpectedly return you to your base while driving, and another bug that gave the Tadpole unlimited oxygen after you died of hunger or thirst. These improvements should make exploring the deep sea a smoother and more enjoyable experience.
Subnautica 2 EULA Relaxed After Fan Criticism; Ridicule Is Now Fair Game
So, the new hotfix for Subnautica 2 isn’t just about how the game plays – they actually changed the legal stuff too, the End User License Agreement. Honestly, a lot of fans were getting worried because some of the original terms were super restrictive. Like, they used to say you couldn’t do anything that might hurt Krafton’s (the publisher) reputation – which sounded like it could even cover making parodies or just openly criticizing the EULA itself! That seemed like a really broad rule that probably wouldn’t even hold up in court. They also dropped the requirement that all fan videos had to have a disclaimer saying Krafton doesn’t endorse them. Now it’s just understood that they don’t, which is a lot more reasonable. It’s good to see they listened to the community on this stuff!
Unknown Worlds is working on more updates to fix performance problems and balance the creatures in the game, based on player feedback. The latest update, Hotfix 2, is currently available for PC players. Xbox Series X/S players will get it soon, after it finishes the required certification process for consoles. Hotfix 3 is expected to be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store around the beginning of June 2026.
