Assassin’s Creed Shadows Unveils Major Hotfix Update – Is It Enough?

Summary

  • The first Assassin’s Creed Shadows hotfix update focuses on stabilization and fixing Photo mode glitches.
  • Reviews praised the game’s open world and gameplay variety, but some scored lower due to different issues.
  • Ubisoft may continue refining the game with future patches following the latest 8.88GB hotfix.

Ubisoft has rolled out the first patch update for “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.” This new installment in the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise made its debut on all major gaming platforms towards the end of last week, receiving praise and attracting a substantial player base despite some pre-release drama. The storyline of “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” unfolds in feudal Japan, where a samurai named Yasuke (born in Africa) and a female ninja called Naoe join together in a mission that intertwines with the longstanding struggle between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.

To date, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” has garnered acclaim for its beautifully crafted open-world setting and blended gameplay style that allows players to select between stealth tactics akin to those preferred by Naoe or a more straightforward, power-focused approach when controlling Yasuke. However, not all reviews have been favorable, as the review scores of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” have fallen slightly short compared to some of the most cherished titles within the extensive historical action series.

Even though it’s relatively small in terms of updates so far, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being praised as a strong addition to the Assassin’s Creed series. The team at Ubisoft Quebec is expected to further enhance the game post-launch through downloadable updates. The initial hotfix, which was just released today, doesn’t include many significant changes. This patch is only 8.88GB in size and the update notes mention only three major points.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.01 Patch Notes

  • Stabilization – Fixed some global issues
  • [PS5] Fixed a Photo mode issue that could cause a crash when fetching photos to display on the world map.
  • [PC] Fixed a Photo mode issue that could cause a crash when taking a photo.

This Assassin’s Creed update tackles both global concerns and technical issues. Specifically, it resolves a problem in the Photo mode on PlayStation 5, where the game might unexpectedly stop working when players collect photos to showcase on the world map. Additionally, a Photo mode snag is rectified for the PC version of the game; this bug led to crashes just by attempting to capture a photo.

This isn’t the first update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows since its launch, but it is the first post-launch hotfix update. Before the game went live on March 20, Ubisoft had already released an update to address concerns about damaging shrines and temples in the game world, which caused controversy even up to the Prime Minister of Japan. Future update patches for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are expected as developers typically make adjustments after release to fix issues in major triple-A games.
