All Parafolk Needs in Paralives (& How to Relieve Them)

In Paralives, your characters need things like food, comfort, and social interaction to stay happy and healthy. If these needs aren’t met, they can become moody, which affects their work and relationships. Ignoring them for too long can even be fatal! So, it’s important to monitor their well-being and address their needs quickly. Here’s a breakdown of all the needs your Parafolks have and how to keep them satisfied.

Paralives Parafolk Needs Overview

All Parafolk Needs Description
Hunger This one represents your characters’ need for food. Like in real life, Paras will starve if this need becomes depleted.
Sleep Paras require proper rest to function well. Without enough sleep, they become exhausted and struggle to complete daily and long-term tasks.
Bathroom When this need gets low, Paras will urgently need to use the bathroom.
Hygiene Paras feel dirty when their hygiene is low. This need gradually decreases over time and drains faster while exercising or cleaning.
Affection Babies and toddlers need interaction so they don’t feel left out.
Fun All Jester Paras ask for engaging activities to keep themselves lively and enjoy their days.
Get Away From The Fire! (Temporary) When this pops up, your characters will need to stay away from the fire to avoid getting burned.

How to Meet Parafolk Needs in Paralives

In Paralives, each character has six basic needs: hunger, sleep, using the bathroom, hygiene, and affection. You’ll need to manage these daily, as they naturally decrease while your character works, spends time with others, does chores, or even just relaxes – sometimes even while they’re asleep! Here’s a breakdown of how to keep each need satisfied.

Restore Hunger in Paralives

In Paralives, your characters need to eat to survive. If you ignore their hunger for too long, they could die, causing you to lose all your progress and belongings (unless you’ve saved the game). Characters automatically eat while at work, but you’ll need to manage their meals at other times. Here’s how hunger works in the game:

  • Click on the fridge when at home, visiting another household, or in a restaurant (use the up or down pages to find the kitchen if it’s on another floor).
  • Select “Cook,” “Snack,” or “Energy Bar” (cooking will require Paradimes).
  • Your Para will then go to the fridge, prepare the selected food if needed, and automatically eat it, which will fulfill the hunger bar.

Customers can now order food directly from restaurants for immediate dining or to pick up later.

  • To feed Baby Paras, make another family member pick them up by clicking on them and then selecting the ‘Bottle Feed’ option.
  • To relieve hunger in toddlers, pick them up, find a high chair, and select the ‘Feed on High Chair’ option. Then, once they’re settled, tap on the high chair and choose ‘Request Food’.
  • Children can only munch on snacks from the fridge, though you can have a Young Adult or Adult Para make a group meal and let children take portions from it.

My Paras with stronger bodies need to eat more to stay functioning well. I learned the hard way that giving them spoiled food might temporarily fill them up, but it can lead to illness, so it’s best to just discard any bad food.

Restore Sleep in Paralives

In Paralives, making sure your characters get enough sleep is crucial for their well-being. If they don’t, they’ll start feeling uncomfortable, tired, and down, which can negatively impact their work, learning, and social interactions. Prolonged sleep deprivation can even cause them to faint or, in severe cases, die. They might also abandon their current activity to rush home and sleep. Here’s how to help your Paras get the rest they need:

  1. Enter any of your owned or unowned properties.
  2. Click on the bed in the room.
  3. Choose either the “Sleep” or “Nap” option.

I like to have my characters take short naps when they’re tired from being up late or after a long day – it gives them a quick energy boost. I usually reserve full sleep for nighttime.

  • To make Baby Paras sleep, buy and place a crib in the house, then pick the baby up and put them in the crib.
  • For toddlers, make them sleep in a Toddler Bed by themselves. If you don’t have one, buy it from Build Mode.

Restore Bathroom Need in Paralives

Unlike other needs, not letting your Paras use the bathroom won’t harm them, but it will make them unhappy. You’ll likely see them display ‘Uncomfortable’ and ‘Sad’ emotion cards, which could lower your chances of getting a job upgrade at the end of the day and might affect your daily earnings. It can also make it harder to build relationships with people in town. Here’s how to handle their bathroom needs:

  • Find a toilet in your home (you can also use toilets in gyms, restaurants, or nearby residences when outside the house. Just expand the map to see available locations.
  • Select the “Use” option.
  • Babies and toddlers will automatically use diapers when their bathroom needs get low. Just have another family member change their diaper to satisfy this need and turn it green. You can also buy a potty seat for toddlers and make them use it.

I’ve been taking my portable restrooms to lots of restaurants, and it turns out not all of them have actual restrooms available. Many only have sinks, so places like homes and gyms are usually better bets when it’s time to empty and refill them.

Restore Hygiene in Paralives

If your Paralives get too dirty, they’ll develop a greenish glow and become unpleasant to be around, especially when out in public. This dirtiness level decreases naturally through everyday activities like exercising, walking, or simply going about their day. Similar to needing to use the bathroom, poor hygiene can impact their emotions, and therefore their work and social interactions, but it won’t be life-threatening. Here’s how to keep your Paralives clean:

  • Head to a bathroom with a shower, preferably in your home (you can also find them in gyms or neighbors’ homes).
  • Click on the shower inside the restroom.
  • Select “Take Shower.”
  • For babies and toddlers, changing their diapers by clicking on them with another family member will suffice for this hygiene need.

This method quickly boosts hygiene and eliminates the green aura, but players can also improve their hygiene a little by washing hands or brushing teeth at sinks found in bathrooms, kitchens, gyms, and restaurants.

Restore Affection in Paralives

In Paralives, babies and toddlers need attention and care to stay happy. Here’s how to make them feel loved:

  • To satisfy a Baby Para’s affection requirement, have another household member hold them, then either cuddle, rock, or play baby plane with them. These options will appear when picking up the baby.
  • To meet a Toddler Para’s affection needs, another family member can give them a hug or tickle them, or even change their diaper by clicking on them.

Restore Fun in Paralives

Paras who act like Jesters need to have fun to stay happy in this life simulation, and how much fun they need can change based on what’s happening or their daily activities. If your Parafolk is feeling down and needs some fun, you can fill their fun meter (turning it green) by doing the following:

  • Chat with any household or non-household Para (such as a child at school, a stranger in the park, or someone walking in the market), build up the conversation, and crack jokes. The more green joke-related ‘Together Cards’ you choose, the more the fun bar will fill up.
  • Open the phone and play video games. This option is only accessible to Parafolk who have a phone.

If people don’t have enough fun, they can get easily frustrated, impacting their everyday experiences. Once you make friends, you can enjoy activities together and even unlock more funny content!

  • Engage with plushies or playable toys, purchasable from Build Mode or shops.
  • Play hopscotch or build a sandcastle in the sandbox located outside their elementary school.
  • Use ziplines in parks or participate in playground activities.

Fix the “Get Away From the Fire” Need

Okay, so if something like an electrical fire breaks out, it totally messes with my Para’s needs. All their basic needs get blocked, and they freak out about the fire – this new ‘avoid fire’ need will pop up and can get really strong, up to five bars. It’s like, forget food and sleep, just get away from the flames!

If a fire breaks out, your top priority is to extinguish it while ensuring your Parafolk member is safe. If they panic, they might freeze and be unable to help themselves. If their clothing catches fire, immediately lead them under a shower to put out the flames, and then call 911 using your smartphone.

If a family member catches fire, another household member can put them out by hitting them and choosing the ‘Extinguish Fire’ option. However, this doesn’t seem to work consistently with toddlers – we’ve tested it, and it didn’t save them.
