Hogwarts Legacy DLC CANCELED!

Summary

  • Warner Bros. Games canceled Hogwarts Legacy DLC, according to a report.
  • The sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is still actively being developed at Avalanche Software.
  • Recent cost-cutting measures by Warner Bros. Games signal financial challenges in the gaming division.

It appears that Warner Bros. Games has allegedly abandoned plans for an upcoming expansion pack titled “Hogwarts Legacy”, initially planned for release in 2025. With several other studios and ongoing projects, the rumored downloadable content (DLC) for Hogwarts Legacy becomes another casualty of Warner Bros.’ financial hardships in the United States.

Following the phenomenal success of the 2023 action-RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. Games began showing more interest in growing the game selection within the Wizarding World franchise. However, their attempts were not well received, as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions faded into obscurity following its release in September 2024. In the same year, they also faced setbacks with the unsuccessful launches of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus. These missteps appear to have affected the planned post-launch content for Hogwarts Legacy, which is now understood to no longer be in development.

In March 2025, Warner Bros.-Discovery decided not to release a planned DLC for Hogwarts Legacy due to “ongoing restructuring” at Avalanche Software, according to Bloomberg’s report. The publisher deemed the expansion incomplete and not worth the proposed price. Additionally, plans for a Definitive Edition of Hogwarts Legacy, which included the base game and the rumored DLC, were canceled. The DLC was being developed with Rocksteady Studios and would have reintroduced cut content from the original game, such as a companion’s storyline. However, the report mentioned that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is currently in production at Avalanche Software.

Warner Bros. Games Ditches Plans for Rumored Hogwarts Legacy DLC

Warner Bros. Games has taken a significant step towards reducing costs recently, as evident from their latest decision. Back in February 2025, they scrapped the much-anticipated ‘Wonder Woman’ game and closed down three studios, including Monolith Productions, creators of ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor’. Earlier, there were numerous layoffs at Rocksteady Studios following the underwhelming reception of their live-service ‘Suicide Squad’ game. The restructuring within Warner Bros. Games has even reached the top echelons, with rumors suggesting a possible departure of its president, David Haddad, later in 2025.

Despite the latest report suggesting trouble for additional content in Hogwarts Legacy, fans can still anticipate the sequel to steer clear of similar issues. Warner Bros. Games has emphasized that the fantasy-centric IP holds significant importance for their future strategies, and there’s scant evidence indicating that the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy sequel might be at risk.
