Excadrill’s Mega Evolution Leaked: What to Expect in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!

Based on a recent rumor that’s been circulating, it seems that Pokémon Legends: Z-A could potentially introduce more than 26 new Mega Evolved Pokémon, surpassing the initial Mega Evolved Pokémon from generations X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. From mid to late March, several reliable sources within the Pokémon community have been claiming that Pokémon from the first seven generations will receive new Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Notable leakers like Centro LEAKS accurately predicted changes in gameplay during nighttime hours, as well as the logo of Z-A Royale on March 18th, both before they were officially unveiled during the Nintendo Direct in March. One Pokémon from the sixth generation that’s said to be receiving a Mega Evolution is the Subterrene Pokémon, Excadrill.

What Gamers May Expect From Mega Excadrill

In the video games Pokémon Black and White from 2010, a host of beloved Pokémon were introduced in the United States-inspired region called Unova. Ranging from the revered dragons such as Hydreigon to the amusing Vanilluxe, numerous players found themselves enamored with new Pokémon among Unova’s 156 unique inhabitants. For many fans, one ground and steel-type Pokémon stood out: Excadrill, resembling a mole with its massive drill-like claws, a blade-like hat on its head, and sleek black and red fur. Excadrill quickly caught the attention of players among the other Pokémon in Unova due to its striking appearance. Moreover, Excadrill’s battle prowess and move set were impressive, boasting a Base Attack stat of 135, a Base HP stat of 110, and learning powerful moves like Drill Run and Earthquake.

In the world of Pokémon, Excadrill has been a recurring character in both the anime series and games over the years. Yet, unlike other Unovan Pokémon, it hasn’t been given a Mega Evolution, Gigantimax, or Paradox form in subsequent titles. Instead, Pokémon such as Audino, Garbodor, Amoonguss, Volcarona, Hydreigon, Virizion, Terrakion, and Cobalion have been the ones to receive these special forms. If recent leaks are accurate, Excadrill might be making a comeback after 15 years with a Mega Evolution. This transformation could alter its Base stats, ability, or type, potentially giving it a significant overhaul or just a minor tweak compared to its current formidable self. Due to its typically low Special Attack and Defense stats, a Mega Excadrill might see those numbers boosted, making it a more offensive and tank-like Pokémon in battle.

The Potential Appearance of Mega Excadrill

If Mega Excadrill gains boosted Special Attack and Defense, it’s logical that these enhancements are visually portrayed on its design. As per several Pokédex entries, Excadrill can bore through over 300 feet of soil, ores, and metals, earning the title Drill King. Consequently, Mega Excadrill might sport a larger, more spiked, and bulbous headpiece similar to industrial drill bits, signifying its deep mining capabilities and embodying its role as an underworld monarch. Furthermore, Mega Excadrill could grow in size, similar to other Mega Evolutions.

Should Excadrill ever undergo Mega Evolution, it will be one of just two Pokémon in the series that possess both Steel and Ground types upon Mega Evolving, much like Mega Steelix.

Where Excadrill Could Appear in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

In most Pokémon games, Excadrill and Drilbur are usually found in places like caves, canyons, mines, mountains, and other rocky regions. However, as of now, only a small sandy area within a Wild Zone filled with Krokoroks and Sandiles resembling a sandy region has been featured in Z-A. It’s possible that Excadrill could appear in similar sandy areas due to Drilbur and Sandile being Ground types. However, it seems that there might be an undiscovered underground area hidden somewhere within Lumiose City in Z-A, since the game appears to take place only within the city and its immediate surroundings, limiting the variety of areas seen in Kalos compared to other games.

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Game Freak might introduce an underground hideout beneath Lumiose City for players to discover a variety of Ground, Rock, and Steel type Pokémon like Excadrill. The game’s story could depict this as a new area created by Quasartico Inc’s urban redevelopment plan to accommodate subterranean Pokémon. This underground region might also serve as a lair for an unidentified criminal organization, reminiscent of Team Flare’s underground bases. Within this hideout, players may come across the Excadrillixite Mega Stone, allowing them to Mega Evolve their Excadrill.
