Summary
- A Pokemon fan found rare Pokemon: The First Movie-themed booster packs from Topps in storage.
- Topps’ cards stand out for featuring illustrated scenes from Pokemon films, with 72 cards from the first movie and Pikachu’s Vacation.
An enthusiast of the popular series, Pokemon, has stumbled upon an amazing find – three containers filled with packs of cards inspired by the initial Pokemon movie. The world of Pokemon is teeming with various cards, and these tiny pieces often spark intriguing tales of surprise discoveries.
In the past, a dedicated Pokemon enthusiast was astonished by an extraordinary present from a colleague. The thoughtful gift was an Entei promotional card that had been released in 2001 and handed out to individuals who purchased tickets for the movie “Spell of the Unown: Entei”. Another fan’s mother stumbled upon an equally amazing find while tidying their home – a Venusaur booster pack from the Base Set, which was the first expansion for the English version of the Pokemon Trading Card Game and was released in 1999. Now another member of the community has a tale to share, and it’s just as remarkable as the others.
Reddit user Assault_Squirtle discovered three boxes containing Pokémon: The First Movie-themed booster packs from Topps. They mentioned that these boxes had been stored in their building and were purchased by their mother. Upon opening one of the packs, they found the cards to be unusually sticky, a characteristic of Topps’ releases. Fans suggested that they open more packs, but Assault_Squirtle stated that they don’t feel the need to, as they already have a complete collection stored in an old binder. Other users pointed out the $1.99 price tag on one of the boxes, which is significantly lower than current Pokémon card prices.
Why Topps Pokemon Cards Are Different
Instead of creating sketches exclusively for trading card collections, Topps’ releases are distinguished by featuring storylines from the Pokemon films and the initial seasons of the anime. The set mentioned, in particular, was launched by Topps in November 1999 and comprises 72 cards depicting scenes from the first Pokemon movie and the short film “Pikachu’s Vacation.” This special story featuring Mewtwo was aired alongside it. Each card in this set has two foil versions, one silver and another rainbow, with the rainbow version containing cards that can range in value from $75 to $200.
As a dedicated Pokémon TCG fan, I’m thrilled to share that we have a fresh new set on the horizon – Destined Rivals! This exciting expansion marks the comeback of Trainer’s Pokémon mechanics and boasts an impressive collection of over 240 cards. Among them, a whopping 83 cards are associated with Team Rocket, but let’s not forget that these villains aren’t the only celebrities in this expansion. It also includes 17 ex-cards showcasing iconic duos from the Pokémon universe, such as Cynthia and Garchomp, Steven and Metagross, and Ethan and Ho-Oh!
