Fans of the classic retro Nintendo systems can now rejoice, as Nintendo Switch 2 has announced plans to incorporate GameCube games into its premium online service offering. However, access to these beloved titles will be limited to subscribers who opt for the more expensive tier of the service.
At present, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription gives you games from the NES, SNES, and Game Boy consoles. If you buy the Expansion Pass, you can play titles from the N64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive as well. Many fans are curious about when new systems will be included, with speculation running high that the GameCube could be next in line.
During the initial presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2 (available on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel), it was disclosed that GameCube games will be incorporated into the Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack, however, this is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
The GameCube Titles Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2 So Far
I’m beyond thrilled to share that the trailer unveiled the lineup for the upcoming GameCube titles on Nintendo Switch 2, set to debut on June 5, 2025. Among them are the adrenaline-pumping F-Zero GX, the epic Soulcalibur II with Link, and the captivating The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker – I can hardly wait!
It has been announced that additional games such as Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon Colosseum will be joining the service at a later time.
Missing from the library are some standout titles such as Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Mario Kart: Double Dash. Fingers crossed they’ll be included at a later time.
It’s been confirmed that a fresh wireless GameCube controller is set to hit the market, and this game app will enable users to customize their control layout. Interestingly, many Nintendo enthusiasts already possess/utilize GameCube controllers due to the Nintendo Switch offering an adapter for them, primarily for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The addition of Nintendo GameCube games to the potential Nintendo Switch 2 is an enormous advantage for the console, and if they eventually include Super Smash Bros. Melee, it could signal the perfect moment for a generation of gamers to part ways with their old CRT TVs and upgrade to newer equipment.
