Is FromSoftware’s New Game a Bloodborne Sequel?

Years after its release, Bloodborne remains a popular topic of conversation. Its influence has been significant, helping to bridge the gap between casual gamers and the Soulslike genre. It’s often praised as one of FromSoftware‘s best creations, and there are discussions about a potential sequel called Bloodborne 2, sparked by rumors surrounding The Duskbloods.

The presentation for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 disclosed numerous intriguing aspects about the next-gen console. However, one of the most surprising announcements was The Duskbloods – an exclusive title developed by FromSoftware specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2. In a time when exclusivity is waning and multiplayer releases are widespread, this seems like a significant triumph for Nintendo.

One thing you can’t help but feel watching The Duskbloods is that it’s a Bloodborne 2 sequel.

Is The Duskbloods a Bloodborne 2 Sequel?

In essence, “Duskbloods” isn’t a traditional follow-up to “Bloodborne,” but rather it shares the same spirit or essence as FromSoftware’s 2015 popular title.

I tuned in for the Nintendo Switch Direct live stream and caught the debut trailer for The Duskbloods. Frankly, I was hoping to see a sneak peek of “Bloodborne 2” towards the end. The visual style, atmosphere, and enemies all carry a very reminiscent tone of Bloodborne.

I believe it’s quite apparent that this is an independent title, possibly inspired by the Bloodborne universe. Its release date, 2026, leaves ample time to discover any other elements FromSoftware may have drawn from their own intellectual property. However, it’s also introducing fresh ideas through its 8-player cooperative multiplayer mode involving both PvP and PvE gameplay.

Time will tell whether we’ll receive an official update on new Bloodborne media (perhaps a remake or remaster), but for now, this alternative should keep us satisfied.

Is Bloodborne Getting a remake?

It appears that FromSoftware hasn’t given any hints about creating a Bloodborne Remake, and it seems unlikely we’ll see a remaster or even a standard PC version released on other platforms.

It’s widely believed that Bloodborne, apart from Elden Ring, is the FromSoft game that has had the greatest impact and garnered the most affection among fans. For quite some time now, it has captivated players, which makes its prolonged absence perplexing. Many gamers have been clamoring for a remake, at the very least a 60 FPS upgrade, for years.

On the downside, Sony’s ongoing practice of launching exclusive games on PC hasn’t yet included Bloodborne, despite speculation that it might. Even the president of FromSoftware has hinted at a potential remake, but with no definite timeline set, we can’t help but question if and when this might materialize.

Are you excited about FromSoftware creating a new game that appears to be in the style of Bloodborne? Or are you still longing for a remake or remastered version instead?
