The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 boasts an array of exciting features for fans of classic Nintendo 64 games. These unique offerings on the Nintendo Switch 2 enable retro gaming enthusiasts to relive their favorite titles from multiple angles. Among these features are customizable button layouts, a ‘rewind’ function, and a vintage filter that gives games a late-90s aesthetic.

The April 2nd live stream for The Switch 2 unveiling offered a wealth of technical details about the upcoming console’s innovative hardware and showcased the new games in development, with beloved characters like Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong making appearances. It also brought delight to retro gamers by revealing a lineup of ten games, including three that will be playable from the console’s launch on June 5th, which has been eagerly awaited by GameCube enthusiasts.

Following the announcement of the Switch 2 direct, Nintendo’s official website hints at a revamped version of classic games from the Nintendo 64 on the upcoming Switch 2 through an app called Nintendo Classics. In addition to offering games already available on Nintendo Switch Online for the original Switch, this app will introduce three unique features.

Firstly, it has been confirmed that the CRT filter, previously mentioned for GameCube games on the Switch 2, will also be applied to Nintendo 64 games. This filter intentionally degrades graphics to mimic the appearance of old tube television screens.

Secondly, the app will provide a rewind function while playing Nintendo 64 classics, enabling players to correct mistakes. Lastly, it will offer a button mapping system, allowing users to customize control schemes according to their preferences.
