rom hack of Pokemon FireRed
, closely following the storyline of the first season of
Ash’s journey in the Pokemon anime
. This unique game introduces creative mechanics, such as items replacing HMs. For example, the Hatchet functions like the HM move Cut, eliminating the need for an HM-dedicated Pokemon.
A harmonious mix of the classic and contemporary,
This game combines old and new elements that series fans will love. But if you’re new to the world of fan-made Pokemon games, it can be tricky to find and start playing. Here’s a guide on how to download and play Pokémon Ash Gray, including a walkthrough.
In our walkthrough, we’ve focused on gym battles, key events, and crucial routes to make it clear and straightforward.
How to Play Pokemon Ash Gray Using an Emulator

As a fan excited to dive into the world of Pokémon Ash Gray, here’s what you’ll need:
1. A reliable Game Boy Advance Emulator, like VisualBoyAdvance for PC or MyBoy! for Android devices.

Happy gaming!
After installing the emulator, gamers can find and download the Pokemon Ash Gray ROM at this link, then launch the game within the emulator by navigating to “File” > “Open” > “selecting” the downloaded Rom file.
Pokemon Ash Gray Walkthrough
As I was in my own world, dreaming of becoming the very best, like no one ever was, I ended up missing the chance to grab a starter Pokemon during the giveaway, just like Ash. But fear not, Professor Oak didn’t leave me empty-handed! He gifted me five Poke Balls and a Pokedex instead, handing over Pikachu as my very own partner in this Pokemon journey. It’s time to set off on my adventure!
Following his departure from Professor Oak’s lab, Ash’s mom drops by, giving him a set of running shoes, a town map, and a Fame Checker – an item used to remember past conversations with significant characters within the game. The opening fight ensues, initiated by a wild Spearow.
Pikachu has a clear edge in this fight due to its type advantage. Later on, make your way towards Viridian City by heading north after the battle is over.
Route 1: The Road to Viridian City

Heading to Viridian City involves traversing high grass ideal for training your Pikachu a bit more. Beyond that lies a barricaded path due to a fallen tree; thus, take a rightward turn towards the water and hit ‘A’ to swim instead.
In this scenario, let the flow guide you towards Misty, who is angling. She’ll signal Ash to transport Pikachu to the Pokemon Center by bicycle. Keep pedaling east until a group of Spearow obstruct your way. In response, Pikachu will use Thunderbolt, scaring them away. From that moment on, follow Ash’s instructions.
As the skies clear, watch for a Ho-Oh appearing in the sky, just like in the anime.
Route 2: Viridian Forest
Now’s the moment to venture into the verdant Viridian Forest, so make your way north and pass through a row of trees acting as the forest’s gateway. As you step onto the greenery, a lively Level 5 Caterpie might show up.
When traveling north, make sure to stay on the left side of the road, and you’ll come across a Level 7 Pidgey (similar to the one from the anime, as this resembles Viridian Forest, where Ash originally captured his Caterpie and evolved it into a Pidgeotto).
Instead of waiting for superior options later in the game, it seems strategic to capture a Pidgeotto and elevate its level, as we have an upcoming challenging battle against a Level 10 Pinsir.
Pewter City Gym
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Geodude | 12 | Rock/Ground |
Onix | 14 | Rock/Ground |
Step into the gym at Pewter City, ready to face off against Brock and his level 14 Onix. Regardless of the result in this initial battle, Flint will guide you to the Hydroelectric Powerplant. At the powerplant, he’ll reward you with a Light Ball, an extraordinary item for your Pikachu that boosts both its Attack and Special Attack abilities.
Hand over the Light Ball to Pikachu, then take on Brock again. However, this time, you’ll have to overcome Geodude, level 12, and Onix, level 14, to claim the Boulder Badge and acquire TM39 – Rock Tomb.
Mt. Moon
Stepping onto Mt. Moon as a passionate fan, I encountered Seymour, the dedicated scientist who pleaded for my assistance in safeguarding Clefairy and the precious Moon Stone from cunning thieves. Delving deeper into the labyrinthine cave, it soon became evident that it was none other than Team Rocket causing trouble! By overcoming them, I successfully hindered their malicious schemes.
Exiting Mt. Moon leads to Cerulean City.
Within Mount Moon, you’ll find an opportunity to pick up a Moon Stone. This stone can aid in the evolution of certain Pokemon, including Clefairy, Nidorino, Nidorina, and surprisingly, Scyther as well. That’s right! In this game, Scyther evolves into Scizor when you use a Moon Stone for its transformation.
Cerulean City Gym
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Staryu | 17 | Water |
Starmie | 19 | Water |
Your opponent in the Cerulean City gym is Misty, and she has level 17 Staryu and level 19 Starmie.
It was found out that you can capture an Abra just beyond Cerulean city and progress it into a Kadabra. Leveling it up to approximately level 20 or above is a more straightforward method to overcome Misty, as it will possess the ability to one-hit knockout her two Pokémon.
Once you’ve successfully beaten Misty, have a chat with Daisy. She will then formally present you with both the Cascade Badge and TM03 – Water Pulse.
In this upcoming fight, it might be wise to retrieve Pikachu for later use and instead, capture a Paras in Mt. Moon or find an Abra in the tall grass to the east of the city, then help it evolve into Kadabra as backup options.
How to Catch Bulbasaur in Pokemon Ash Gray

From Cerulean City, travel south, followed by a journey westward until you come across a green expanse. After that, continue moving south again until you spot the entrance to the secluded village known as the Hidden Village.
Make your way towards the village where you’ll find Melani. She’ll propose that you bring Bulbasaur with you, but only if you can show your worthiness by overcoming it in a battle first.
Bulbasaur is only level 10, so it’s very easy to lower its HP and catch it using a Poke Ball.
Exercise caution to avoid being ensnared within the Secret Village. Without an Escape Cord or a Pokemon capable of using Teleport, you risk finding yourself stuck in a pit with no means of escape.
How to Catch Charmander in Pokemon Ash Gray

Following my successful capture of Bulbasaur, I bid farewell to the concealed hamlet and journeyed southward. It wasn’t long before I spotted a Charmander perched atop a hill, with a Pokemon Center located even further south. Upon entering the establishment, I found myself confronting a youth named Damian, who was distinctively dressed in a blue shirt to my right.
As a fellow Pokémon enthusiast, I wanted to share some exciting news! It turns out that the Charmander you see here was intentionally left as a stray. Now, if you’ve got an open spot in your Pokéball collection, you can claim it as your own! Just remember to keep an eye on your party roster – make sure there’s room for this fiery friend before you try to catch him!
Once you step out of the center, Damian will invite you to a fight over who gets to keep Charmander. He has Machop, Drowzee, and Rhyhorn at level 16 each, but if you have a Psychic type Pokemon like Kadabra, it could instantly defeat his entire team with a single Confusion attack.
How to Get The Old Rod in Pokemon Ash Gray

Following getting Charmander, proceed south and then east. Along the way, a band of Squirtle may corner you, but Officer Jenny will save you from trouble. She’ll tell you that this group of Squirtle are actually abandoned Squirtles whose previous trainers left them behind.
Keep moving eastward and eventually find yourself at a house. Speak with the individual residing within. This fellow is known as the Fishing Expert, and he’ll hand over an antique fishing rod to you.
To start fishing, just stand near any body of water and press A, in typical Pokemon fashion.
How to Catch Squirtle in Pokemon Ash Gray

To catch a Squirtle from the lake below, prepare to use your fishing rod. Subsequently, Squirtle will surprise-attack your Pikachu and lead it to the cave located in the eastern direction.
In order to save Pikachu, you’ll have to fetch a Super Potion hidden within a Poke Mart, which is nestled at the far end of the cave. Showing such determination towards Pikachu might just win over Squirtle, who will then decide to team up with you.
Later on, travel southwards beyond Officer Jenny and make your way through the Underground Passage to get to Vermilion City.
Or simply:
Head south from Officer Jenny, then take the Underground Tunnel to reach Vermilion City.
Vermillion City Gym
Pokemon | Level | Type |

Raichu | 25 | Electric |
In Pokemon FireRed, you could find a Diglett’s cave to catch a Diglett or Dugtrio, making it easier for Gym battles. However, in this game, I’ve taught Pikachu the move Dig, which it can actually learn from a TM found on Mt. Moon.
As a gamer, I found Lt. Surge’s Raichu to be just a level 25 Pokémon, so the battle wasn’t too tough to conquer. After overcoming him, he generously handed me the Thunder Badge and TM34 – Shockwave as my rewards.
An alternative strategy for defeating Lt. Surge is to capture and develop a Sandshrew found at Mt. Moon. This way, you’ll benefit from a Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) when battling his Raichu, and it will be immune to Electric attacks.
St. Anne
Following my victory over Lt. Surge, I made my way towards the bustling harbor. There, I stumbled upon a pair of friendly ladies who graciously handed me some tickets for the ferry to St. Anne. Easy as that!
Make your way aboard the vessel and descend the stairway toward the southwest. Overcome all the Team Rocket minions you encounter in the corridor to eventually reach the last room where you’ll find the Hatchet, an object that operates identically to HM01 – Cut.
In Pokemon Ash Gray and FireRed, a key difference lies in how quickly the ship departs once you board – it leaves promptly, so remember to wrap up any remaining tasks before you head towards the dock to avoid being stranded.
How to Catch Gyarados in Pokemon Ash Gray
Following your victory over Team Rocket, ascend the stairs to the upper level, then proceed eastward. Continuing in this direction will take you to another set of stairs, which will ultimately bring you to the captain’s quarters. It is here where you’ll discover that the ship has sunk.
After utilizing the Hatchet for an escape, swim towards Team Rocket’s raft located to the east to instigate a fight with a level 25 Gyarados, which you have the option of capturing. Following this encounter, you’ll find yourself in Pokemon Land, but rest assured, a woman aboard a yacht will eventually arrive to save you.
Porta Vista

Once you step off the yacht, you’ll find yourself in Porta Vista, a well-known tourist destination famous for its competing eateries and annual beauty pageant. Venture northward, as your skills will be crucial in dealing with the Tentacool creatures that have disturbed a nearby hotel construction site.
Move northwards and engage with the individual dressed in a red attire there. In your path ahead, a colossal Tentacruel will emerge from some Tentacool, and you’ll need to fight it.
As a gamer, I find myself facing an uphill challenge against a formidable level 25 Tentacruel, equipped with the moves Toxic, Sludge Bomb, and Hydro Pump. To ensure my trusty Pikachu is in peak condition for this fight, I’ve been focusing on his health and charging up those Thunder Bolts! Sadly, I can’t add this powerful Pokemon to my collection, but after defeating it, I’ll chat with the man once more. He’ll then guide me towards Maiden’s Peak, where I anticipate even greater adventures await!
Maiden’s Peak – Route 7

Starting from Maiden’s Peak, move north followed by west to find a cluster of Butterfree near the sea. Engage with the woman close to the signpost, and she’ll share that it’s the Butterfree mating season. If you possess a Butterfree, you’ll be given an option to free it.
In this instance, we’re recalling the poignant allusion to the emotionally charged 21st episode of the series, where Ash says goodbye to his beloved Pokémon, Pikachu (or Butterfree, depending on the specific context).
Saffron City and First Encounter with Sabrina

Visit the fitness center to face off against a trainer, and if successful, earn an opportunity to confront Sabrina with her level 35 Abra. However, even in victory, Sabrina may dismiss your prowess, claiming it insignificant compared to her psychic powers, and she might reduce you to a plaything in her miniature Saffron City.
Head down a narrow side street close to the fitness center, and an elderly gent will suggest that you should try capturing a spooky Pokemon with a ghostly nature in Lavender Town if you aim to conquer Sabrina.
In contrast to the Pokemon FireRed, Silph Co. does not play a significant role in this game. Instead, your objective will be to proceed directly to the Gym located in Saffron City.
How to Get Haunter in Pokemon Ash Gray

Here, your main objective is to acquire Haunter, referencing past anime occurrences. To move through the tower efficiently, keep close to the right-hand wall and follow this route until you come across a door.
Explore the area thoroughly, and you’ll stumble upon a spacious room featuring a lengthy dining table. Then, navigate towards the northern part of the location, passing between the two statues. After that, locate the hanging rope, pull it down to set off an occurrence which will enable Haunter to join your team.
Pokemon Tower is a dark place full of ghost Pokemon which you cannot identify, catch or battle.
Saffron City Gym
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Kadabra | 35 | Psychic |
With Haunter in your team now, let’s return to the Saffron City Gym to confront Sabrina once more. This time around, you’ll battle her formidable level 35 Kadabra. If you manage to defeat it, she’ll warn you that she might shrink you into a toy again.
At this point, Haunter is about to appear and bring laughter to Sabrina. It dawns on Sabrina that by assuming the role of a Gym Leader, she had suppressed her inner child. She expresses gratitude towards you for allowing Haunter to stay with her. In return, you’ll receive the Marsh Badge and TM04 – Calm Mind.
If you’ve successfully raised a Kadabra or Alakazam by now, you would understand the strength of Psychic types in this game. There isn’t a great way to defeat Sabrina’s Kadabra, as you can’t catch any other Ghost-type Pokemon and Bug-types don’t have moves powerful enough to be useful. What I found effective was using multiple Pokemon in a prolonged battle since she only has one. Having six Pokemon on your team could potentially give you an advantage when facing this Gym Leader.
Celadon City Department Store
If you keep going westward, you’ll eventually arrive at Celadon City, renowned for its impressive Celadon Department Store. This skyscraper is the tallest structure found to the east of Celadon City.
In Pokémon games, you can’t buy items like the Silph Scope or Item Finder because these items cost 1 million Pokedollars, which is more than the maximum amount of money a player can earn, capped at 999,999.
Celadon City Gym
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Tangela | 35 | Grass |
Weepinbell | 32 | Grass/Poison |
Gloom | 38 | Grass/Poison |
To get into the Celadon City Gym and take on Erika, it’s essential that you work together with Team Rocket. Here’s a heads up: Erika has some strong Pokémon – a Tangela at level 35, a Weepinbell at level 32, and a Gloom at level 38. So, team up with Team Rocket if you want to face these powerful creatures!
As a devoted fan, I effortlessly conquered this gym battle predominantly with my trusted Alakazam and its Psybeam, taking advantage of her Psychic vulnerability. Following my triumph over Erika, Team Rocket will make their ominous appearance, setting the gym ablaze. Remarkably, Erika’s Gloom manages to evade the chaos and finds refuge in the northeastern corner of the charred gym.
Rescue Gloom, exit the gym, and Erika award you with the Rainbow badge and TM19 – Giga Drain.
In this fitness center, there are a grand total of seven trainers on staff, yet you’ll only have to overcome the challenges posed by three of them if you aim to face off against Erika.
Route 14 to Diglett’s Cave
Keep going along the western route, and ultimately, you’ll find yourself on road 14. Along the way, you’ll encounter two optional events that are nods to anime episodes: The spark-filled adventure in “Episode 29: Magnemite Sparks Up” and the digging fun in “Episode 30: Let’s Dig with Diglett.
Navigate through Diglett’s Tunnel from one end to another, which will take you to an underground passage that leads directly to Fuchsia City.
Go to the Pokemon Center and solve the Power Plant’s problem to have a chance to catch a Muk.
Fuchsia City Gym: Koga
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Venomoth | 40 | Bug/Poison |
Golbat | 38 | Poison/Flying |
Step into the gym, then head towards the statue positioned on your gym’s left side. Once you reach it, find the button (B) hidden behind the statue to reveal a concealed path and unlock a hidden door. You’ll encounter just one other Trainer inside the gym – Koga’s sister, Aya, who is accompanied by a Venonat at level 32.
Overpower her, then make your way towards the heart of the gym, which is signified by a vibrant yellow mat. That’s where the elusive Koga will emerge and invite you to a fierce battle, with his Venomoth at level 40 and a Golbat at level 38.
Despite Koga fielding two Pokemon, their power isn’t overwhelming. You can vanquish his Venomoth by employing a Flying or Fire-type Pokemon, and Pikachu can effortlessly subdue Golbat using any Electric-type attack. Upon your triumph over him, you’ll receive the Soul badge and TM06 – Toxic as a reward.
To move through the Gym and find Koga, simply tap “A” when you encounter a hidden barrier. This will unveil the path that takes you directly to Koga located in the gym’s center.
The Safari Zone in Pokemon Ash Gray
The Safari Zone lies up north from Fuchsia City. However, prior to entering, you’ll be required to pay a small fee of 500. Inside the zone, your journey is limited to 500 steps and you’re given only 30 Safari Balls for catching Pokemon.
When you’re all set, make your way into the Safari Zone, then advance towards Area 2, past the cluster of Kangaskhan. Proceed north along the path and keep going until you arrive at the off-limits area. Here, you’ll come across Team Rocket attempting to capture a Dratini by means of a bomb.
They’ll prompt you for a fight, deploying an Arbok and Weezing at level 34 each. Overpower them to unveil a Dragonair, expelling them with a powerful blast.
To express my appreciation, the Safari Zone Warden will bestow upon you a Dragon Scale. This special occasion is reminiscent of episode 35 in the anime.
Before venturing into it, you might consider dropping by the residence of the fishing expert, situated in the easternmost building, just beside the Pokemon Center. Inside, have a chat with the Fishing Guru’s brother. He’ll hand over a superior fishing rod to you, which is also functional within the Safari Zone for catching Water-type Pokemon.
How to Get a Bike in Pokemon Ash Gray

Following the happenings at the Safari Zone, make your way to Fuchsia City’s Pokémon Center for a chat with Nurse Joy. In return for your assistance, she proposes to give you some medicine for Sunny Town and also lets you borrow her bicycle.
Go in a southern direction, find the bike trail, and cycle along it. Continue riding your bike until you pass over the bridge, then look for the exit. From there, make your way towards Sunny Town’s Pokemon Center.
– Head southwards, locate the bicycle path, and pedal on it. Keep going until you cross the bridge and find the way out. Then, navigate yourself to Sunny Town’s Pokemon Center.
– Travel south, seek out the bike lane, and cycle along it. After that, proceed on your bike under the bridge until you spot the exit, then journey towards Sunny Town’s Pokemon Center.
Talk to Nurse Joy about delivering the medicine, and you’ll get to keep the bike.
How to Get Evolution Stones From Mikey’s Brothers in Pokemon Ash Gray
Keep driving on Route 12 until you reach a hill that has a narrow trail obstructed by a fallen tree. Use your axe to remove the tree, then search for a missing Eevee.
Make your way towards Stone Town, as that’s where Mikey, Eevee’s trainer, will clarify he concealed Eevee to keep his siblings from compelling it to advance against his preferences. Notably, each of his brothers has an evolved form of Eevee and they’re eager for a fight with you.
At level 35, you will encounter Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon. Overcome them all, then approach each brother to receive an evolution stone that matches the elemental type of the Pokemon they possess.
How to Catch Snorlax in Pokemon Ash Gray
Keep moving westward on the path until you reach Route 20, and there you’ll find a farm that has become barren due to a Snorlax obstructing its water supply. Talk to the elderly man perched on the hill who will provide you with a Poké Flute, which can be used to wake up Snorlax.
Use the Poke Flute to wake up it up. It will be very grumpy and will challenge you to a battle.
You encounter a Snorlax at level 30. You have the option to either capture it or battle against it. Once done, make your way west along the trail leading to Route 12.
Once Snorlax has been subdued or taken prisoner, cut down some trees to open up the waterway. On the other side of the farm, speak to the farmer. He’ll compensate you with a Miracle Seed, an item that enhances the strength of moves related to grass.
How to Get Pickaxe in Pokemon Ash Gray

Keep going westward and follow the slope down until you encounter Gary. At present, he’s uncovering some fossils and will lend you his old mining tool, which functions similarly to the “Rock Smash” move in Pokémon FireRed.
Cinnabar Island
Upon reaching Cinnabar Island, I came across a man with sunglasses and blonde hair near the gym. He extended an invitation for me to visit the Riddle Inn, which is conveniently situated right next to the Cinnabar Gym.
Speak with that man once more and then journey south towards the Pokemon Lab, where Team Rocket has set up camp. They are armed with a Level 42 Victreebel, Lickitung, Arbok, and Weezing. Overcome them in battle and make your way back to the Riddle Inn to obtain a clue about Blaine’s secretly located gym.
Cinnabar Island Gym: Blaine
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Ninetales | 42 | Fire |
Rhydon | 40 | Ground/Rock |
Magmar | 45 | Fire |
Make your way north towards the hot springs, engage with the central part of the wall there. You’ll find a cave entrance emerging. Venture into it, then follow the ladder down to face off against Blaine.
In this particular 3 vs 3 Pokemon fight, the Pokemon that gave me some trouble was Magmar. I hadn’t anticipated it using Thunder Punch as a move, which caught me off guard.
Or more casually:
In our 3v3 Pokemon matchup, Magmar proved to be tricky due to its unexpected use of the Thunder Punch attack.
As a devoted fan, I firmly believe that to triumph over Blaine, the optimal team composition would likely include three Water-type Pokémon. The advantage in typing alone could potentially set the stage for a one-hit knockout. Upon successfully defeating him, he’ll bestow the Volcano Badge and teach you TM38 – Fire Blast.
As a gamer, when I find myself low on Water-type Pokémon, I like to switch things up by deploying some Ground-types instead. They’ve got some fantastic STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves like Earthquake from Golem or Dig from Dugtrio that can really pack a punch!
How to Get Surf in Pokemon Ash Gray
After receiving the Volcano badge from Blaine, speak to the elderly man located near the western shore of the hotsprings, he’ll provide you with a Raft that serves the same purpose as HM03 – Surf in other Pokémon games.
How to Get a Super Rod in Pokemon Ash Gray
Starting from Cinnabar Island, sail on your raft towards the North and reach the Rock Tunnel. After emerging from it, you’ll find yourself in Cerulean City. In this city gym, you can enjoy a graceful water ballet performance by Misty. However, your peaceful time might be disrupted by Team Rocket!
As a gamer, I successfully took down Misty’s formidable quartet: level 44 Victreebel, Arbok, Weezing, and Lickitung at the gym. In return, Misty expressed her gratitude for my help and rewarded me with a Super Rod.
Viridian City Gym
Team Rocket Cohorts First Battle | ||
---|---|---|
Pokemon | Level | Type |
Machamp | 50 | Fighting |
Kingler | 50 | Water |
Rhydon | 50 | Ground/Rock |
Team Rocket Cohorts Second Battle | ||
Pokemon | Level | Type |
Victreebel | 45 | Grass/Poison |
Weezing | 45 | Poison |
Arbok | 45 | Poison |
Lickitung | 45 | Normal |
Starting from the Cerulean City Gym, make your way towards Mt. Moon, then return to Viridian City. In this city, it turns out that Team Rocket has been elevated to take over as the new Gym Leaders.
This conflict is split into two rounds:
1. The initial skirmish involves taking down a trio, namely the level 50 Machamp, Kingler, and Rhydon.
2. Subsequently, you’ll face their original Pokémon lineup, which includes level 45 Victreebel, Weezing, Arbok, and Lickitung.
Following their defeat at James’ hands, he humorously triggers an explosion which sends Team Rocket soaring away. In their hasty departure, they inadvertently abandon the Earth Badge and TM26 – Earthquake.
The main obstacle Team Rocket presents is their wide array of Pokémon they’ll use against you. A successful approach I found is by emphasizing type advantages and weaknesses in your strategy, similar to the traditional method for playing Pokémon. Pikachu performed well against Machamp and Kingler, while Gyarados handled Rhydon effectively.
The biggest problem with Team Rocket is their varied team of Pokémon. I found that using type advantages and weaknesses, like the classic strategy in Pokémon games, worked best for me. Pikachu was good against Machamp and Kingler, while Gyarados took care of Rhydon easily.
How to Defeat Mewtwo in New Island
Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Venusaur | 75 | Grass/Poison |
Blastoise | 75 | Water |
Charizard | 75 | Fire/Flying |
Once you’ve collected every Gym Badge across the Kanto region, your journey continues by visiting New Island for a showdown with Mewtwo. Interestingly enough, this segment of the game mirrors the events depicted in the initial Pokémon film.
Upon your arrival at New Island Mansion, a sequence of occurrences will unfold that ultimately culminates in a trainer duel with Mewtwo. Brace yourself for a challenging encounter with three powerful Pokémon, each at level 75.
In this fight, I took on Mewtwo even though I was below his level, as I skillfully utilized my type’s edge in his team composition.
Unexpectedly, these Pokémon turn out to be bulkier than anticipated and can endure Self-Targeted Attack Bonus (STAB) strikes, so make sure to have Hyper Potions and Revives on hand if you don’t manage to defeat them in a single blow. Brace yourself for a challenging counterattack.
In the heat of this fight, I’d advise against relying on powerful yet inaccurate moves like Fire Blast, and most definitely steer clear from one-hit knockout moves such as Guillotine or Horn Drill. These Pokemon are resilient and challenging to defeat. If you fail to land an attack, they will swiftly retaliate with their Super Effective Moves (STAB).
New Island Bug

Following your victory over Mewtwo, it’s time for you to return to the peaceful Pallet Town. Once there, Ash’s mother will urge him to pay a visit to the Xanadu Nursery, which is located in Viridian City. This visit will pave the way for him to access Victory Road and the Pokemon League.
In certain instances while playing this game, users have stumbled upon an issue where they can’t activate a specific event following the completion of the New Island event and returning home. Since this ROM hack was developed over a decade ago, it’s possible that a resolution for this particular problem may not be forthcoming.
How to Beat Elite Four Lorelei

Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Dewgong | 80 | Water/Ice |
Jynx | 80 | Ice/Psychic |
Kingler | 82 | Water |
Lapras | 84 | Water/Ice |
Cloyster | 82 | Water/Ice |
Slowbro | 82 | Water/Psychic |
In your upcoming battle against the Elite Four, Lorelei – an authority on Ice Pokemon – will be your initial adversary. Interestingly, there isn’t a pure Ice-type among her roster. However, Steel and Electric types have the potential to overpower her squad.
It is possible to triumph over Lorelei with only two Pokémon: Pikachu and Scizor. Pikachu can take down Dewgong, Kingler, Lapras, Cloyster, and Slowbro due to their Water-type weaknesses, while you can utilize Scizor’s Steel Wing to overcome Jynx.
In this fight, it’s best not to rely on Water, Fire, or Rock-type Pokemon when facing Ice-type Pokemon, as they are vulnerable to Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel attacks. Instead, consider deploying Pokemon of other types such as Flying, Psychic, or Ground for a better chance of success.
How to Beat Bruno (Elite Four)

Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Primeape | 82 | Fighting |
Hitmonchan | 80 | Fighting |
Poliwrath | 82 | Water/Fighting |
Machamp | 84 | Fighting |
Onix | 80 | Rock/Ground |
Hitmonlee | 80 | Fighting |
According to me, this fight appears to be an easy win because four of Bruno’s Pokemon are pure Fighting-types and can be defeated with a single hit from Alakazam’s Psybeam or Psychic. I recommend sending Pikachu against Poliwrath and using either Blastoise or Venusaur to take on Onix.
How to Beat Agatha (Elite Four)

Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Golbat | 82 | Poison/Flying |
Nidoking | 82 | Poison/Ground |
Gengar | 84 | Ghost/Poison |
Arbok | 80 | Poison |
Nidoqueen | 82 | Poison/Ground |
Muk | 80 | Poison |
In this fight, you’re relying on Alakazam yet again because Psychic Pokemon tend to have an advantage over Poison types.
As a gamer, I’ve got to warn you folks, when it comes to this roster, Gengar is the one to watch out for. You see, there aren’t any Dark-types in this game, and since we can’t catch any Ghost-types either, there’s no way to counter Gengar with another spectral foe. So, be prepared!
Your best bet is to use Pikachu or the starter Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard against Gengar.
How to Beat Lance (Elite Four)

Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Gyarados | 82 | Water/Flying |
Dragonite | 82 | Dragon/Flying |
Aerodactyl | 84 | Rock/Flying |
Scyther | 80 | Bug/Flying |
Seadra | 82 | Water |
Charizard | 80 | Fire/Flying |
Lance the Dragon Master will be your last test in the Elite Four. Interestingly, he only has one true Dragon-type Pokémon – a Dragonite.
In this battle scenario, utilize Pikachu against both Gyarados and Seadra, as well as any Water-type creatures like Blastoise or another Gyarados to counter Aerodactyl and Charizard. For Scyther, a Fire or Flying Pokemon should prove effective, while an Ice-type Pokemon such as Cloyster or Dewgond can quickly subdue Dragonite belonging to Drake.
How to Beat Slate and Become the Pokemon Champion

Pokemon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Kanghaskhan | 82 | Normal |
Poliwrath | 80 | Water/Fighting |
Electrode | 84 | Electric |
Fearow | 84 | Flying |
Arcanine | 84 | Fire |
Venusaur | 88 | Grass/Poison |
Following your victory over the Elite Four, you now have the opportunity to face off against Slate, the current Pokemon Champion. While his team boasts a variety of Pokemon species, it doesn’t necessarily pack a punch compared to other champions’ teams.
When facing Kangaskhan, consider using a Fighting-type Pokemon like Primeape or Machamp. For Electrode and Arcanine, go with a Ground-type Pokemon instead. If you’re looking to defeat both Poliwrath and Fearow, Pikachu is a solid choice. Venusaur is currently at an impressive level 88, but be mindful that Charizard’s Fire-type moves or Pidgeot’s Flying-type attacks could be effective against it.
Winning against Slate grants you the prestigious title of Pokémon Champion, but it’s just the same triumphant reception you’d get if Ritchie or any other trainer defeats you during the early competition rounds – back in Pallet Town remains unchanged either way.
