Nightwing Deserves His Own Game: Escape to Bludhaven?

In the game “Batman: Arkham Knight,” Rocksteady Studios gradually incorporated various characters with minor roles initially, until they were all significant figures by the end. However, there was little explanation given about any of the Bat-family members in the storyline. Barbara Gordon is the only one whose tale has been clearly established within the “Arkhamverse” timeline due to her presence in almost every game from “Batman: Arkham Asylum” to “Batman: Arkham Origins.” Dick Grayson, on the other hand, made his debut as Nightwing in “Batman: Arkham City,” although it was a relatively low-key introduction.

This made it clear how many years Bruce Wayne had been Batman by this point, given that Dick Grayson was his original Robin and has a rich history in the Arkhamverse. However, since Tim Drake is currently Batman’s Robin, it didn’t matter if the details of their shared past hadn’t been fully explored. What was intriguing, though, was the idea of Nightwing being to Bludhaven what Batman is to Gotham City. While Bludhaven might provide an ideal setting for a Nightwing game, Gotham City could also serve as the backdrop for a Robin game, following the events of “Batman: Arkham Shadow.

Batman’s Arkhamverse Leaves a Breadcrumb Trail Leading Straight to Bludhaven

It’s plausible to imagine a standalone Nightwing game, built on the foundations of Batman’s previous games, isn’t far-fetched and has been a desired concept among players for some time. Furthermore, the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight hinted at a possible game set in Bludhaven, which doesn’t seem entirely improbable.

the former emphasizes Nightwing’s fighting skills and predator-style gameplay (initially set at Bludhaven Docks), while the latter is set in Blüdhaven. It’s possible that Rocksteady could consider moving away from Gotham City, as seen in “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” and since Batman is currently alive, it seems logical that Nightwing’s role might not be needed in the present day.

In a playful yet thoughtful manner, the confident Aaron Cash proposes refurbishing the damaged Bat-Signal and making Nightwing Gotham City’s protector during Batman’s temporary departure. However, Nightwing politely turns down this suggestion. If Rocksteady or another studio were to develop a Nightwing game, they would find a well-established foundation based on the “Knight” series and a smooth transition point for continuity.

Why Dick Grayson’s Arkhamverse Story May Be Stuck in the Past for Now

A game featuring Nightwing could offer a rich tapestry of world-building and backstory in an entirely distinct town. The “GCPD Lockdown” demonstrates that Nightwing’s crime-fighting activities aren’t limited to the dark hours. However, it may be intriguing to delve into Dick Grayson’s early days as Robin instead. The game Batman: Arkham Shadow has crafted an original and captivating origin tale for the Boy Wonder.

Shadow decided to introduce Dick as one of the Rat King’s henchmen, subtly hinting at his true identity, even though the game didn’t explicitly confirm he was Dick until a more recent scene in the epilogue where Bruce Wayne is relocating him from the Beacon Hotel to Wayne Manor. It would be unfortunate if future Arkham games neglected to explore Dick’s past as Robin, but Shadow has cleverly set up this narrative thread regardless of what may lie ahead for the character.

Instead of having a standalone story for Shadow, it would be intriguing to develop a sequel where Batman guides both Batgirl and Robin together, deepening that narrative thread. Meanwhile, it seems appropriate for a Nightwing game to unfold in Bludhaven, while a Robin game could still continue within the Arkhamverse’s home base of Gotham City.
