To date, the second season of “The Last of Us” has made a strong debut according to critics, who’ve given the long-awaited return of this post-apocalyptic series a favorable review. However, there are some minor concerns about the upcoming episodes that hint at an incomplete storyline and possibly an open ending. With a current rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers can expect an exciting continuation when they reunite with beloved characters Joel and Ellie next week.
Neil Druckmann, showrunner for The Last of Us, has announced that season 2 will be “wild,” sparking curiosity about the new horrors that will be featured in the series, which is based on the gaming sequel. The world of The Last of Us is already frightening with clickers, stalkers, and bloaters, but it seems there might be additional threats such as savage cannibals and ruthless gangs. Joel and Ellie will have their hands full trying to dodge the various types of infected that are expected to make more appearances this season. Additionally, Bella Ramsey has shared her fears about portraying Ellie, and it’s not what most fans might anticipate.
Bella Ramsey Reveals their Scariest Moment From The Last of Us Season 2

When interviewed by Yahoo Australia, Bella Ramsey shared that the most frightening moment of filming season 2 for her was stepping through a door into complete darkness. Though fans might assume that being eaten by the infected or attacked by the Seraphites would top the list, for Ramsey, it was this simple, yet chilling, experience. As she explained, “Sometimes after wrapping up a scene, I’d go into a room through a door, and often there’s nothing behind that door – just darkness, no lights, no one there. That’s what I find the scariest.
During the interview, the interviewer mentioned that Bella might have found the clickers and infected in costume as the most unsettling moments while filming, but instead, Bella shared that these people were surprisingly not scary at all. In fact, they required help with basic tasks like drinking water and moving around, making them more vulnerable than frightening. Ramsey chuckled and added that they found these individuals quite amusing on set.
During an amusing anecdote about filming season 2 of “The Last of Us”, Ramsey shared that there was a peculiar incident involving Ellie and Dina (played by Isabella Merced). In one scene, they were seen sharing cookies, but because multiple takes were required, they had a spit bucket at hand. Consequently, during filming, they needed to spit out their cookies into this shared container. Ramsey humorously described it as “definitely not appetizing”.
The second season of “The Last of Us” debuts on HBO on April 13, 2025. Following the initial broadcast, HBO will also launch their podcast for “The Last of Us” on the same day, starting after the series premiere at 9 pm EST on both HBO and HBO Max. Every week, the podcast will air simultaneously with its seven episodes.
