Prior to the April 10 launch of “Star Overdrive”, the French publisher Dear Villagers unveiled its official trailer for the game. Game Rant has the exclusive first look at this captivating video. They are die-hard fans of Breath of the Wild, and aim to encapsulate the elements they admired most from that 2017 Zelda entry while still forging their own unique path.

The expansive open world of Star Overdrive covers approximately 105 square miles of an extraterrestrial planet, inviting exploration. While a significant portion of time will be spent zooming through various terrains, engaging in combat is also a key component. Interestingly, the game’s hoverboard mechanics are integrated into these combats. Similar to Breath of the Wild, Star Overdrive seeks to foster an environment where players can freely interact with the game’s systems, encouraging experimentation to conquer combat scenarios, solve puzzles, and navigate effectively.

Since the end of March 2025, Star Overdrive has been open for pre-orders. The anticipated release date is set for this coming Thursday, April 10. The standard edition will sell for $34.99 or €34.99, while the Deluxe Edition, priced at $5 more, offers a distinct hoverboard design, three hoverboard styles, and 50 dyes. This Deluxe package also contains the game’s soundtrack and a digital version of an original companion manga, retailing for $39.99.

It appears that “Star Overdrive” is scheduled for release as an exclusive on the Nintendo Switch, but since its announcement in summer 2024, its Steam page has already gone live. This suggests that it may not be long before “Star Overdrive” becomes available for PC as well.
