During Nintendo’s E3 2018 event, Marvelous Inc., a Japanese game publisher, unveiled a brand new title they were working on – Daemon X Machina, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. This action-packed mech game promises intense battles and is often referred to as the spiritual successor of FromSoftware’s Armored Core series. Notably, some team members from the Armored Core franchise, including its producer Kenichiro Tsukuda, were part of Daemon X Machina’s development process. Much like Armored Core, this game allows for customizable mechs and online player versus player multiplayer. However, it stands out with a vibrant color scheme that differs from the subdued palette commonly found in FromSoftware’s long-standing series.
Back in September 2019, I got my hands on Daemon x Machina for the Nintendo Switch, and while it was globally launched, it wasn’t exactly the game everyone was raving about. Critics weren’t too fond of it either; OpenCritic gave it a 45% thumbs-up rating and an average score of 70/100 from top critics. The main complaints were about its complex storyline, clunky UI design, and repetitive missions.
However, despite the mixed reviews, this game seemed to be a hit among players, selling like hotcakes on the Switch! So much so that there’s already a sequel in the works. Go figure!
A Sequel to Daemon X Machina is Coming Out Later this Year
The Follow-Up to Daemon X Machina Looks Much More Ambitious than Its Predecessor
As a diehard fan of Daemon X Machina, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, the sequel to the original game. Over a year ago, Marvelous announced it, but they didn’t share any gameplay footage or specify the target platforms back then. However, during Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the cat was finally out of the bag! Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion was fully unveiled, and its one-minute announcement trailer hints at a far more expansive experience than the first game. Instead of sticking with the mission-based level design, this time around, we’ll be exploring a vast open world on foot or soaring through the skies in our reliable exosuits. To top it off, we can even hop onto horses for an unexpected twist!
Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion is Being Released on All Current-Gen Platforms
Following the Nintendo Direct event, Marvelous announced that “Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion” would not just hit the Nintendo Switch 2 but also the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. The game is scheduled to release on September 5, 2025 – a full six years after the initial launch of “Daemon X Machina”. Interestingly, the new version will retail for $70 across all platforms, which is a $10 increase from the original game’s price.
Marvelous Should Have Ported the OG Daemon x Machina to PS5 and XSX Before The Launch of Its Sequel
Even though we’re excited about the imminent release of Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, it’s a bit frustrating that Marvelous didn’t announce plans for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of its predecessor earlier. The original Daemon X Machina came out on Windows PC in February 2020, shortly after its Nintendo Switch debut, but never made it to PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Given the game’s popularity, it seems like a missed opportunity that it wasn’t released on those platforms as well.
It’s been suggested that Nintendo may have paid Marvelous to keep “Daemon X Machina” exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Given that Nintendo published the game, this theory isn’t entirely far-fetched. However, considering that other previously Nintendo-published games like “Octopath Traveler” and “Shin Megami Tensei V” have appeared on other consoles, it seems less probable. Still, the decision by Marvelous not to release “Daemon X Machina” on other current-gen consoles before the launch of its sequel appears to be a missed opportunity, as it could have boosted sales for the upcoming “Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion” on PlayStation and Xbox.
